At the last count, even Van Der Sar was almost changing his mind about retirement but he had one last word with Sir Ferguson and later changed his mind just about a week to the end of the season. It's all well to have the likes of Gary Neville, Van Der Sar & Scholes retire in order to make the younger generation grow. Of course you know the way Fergie does this things; let the young ones learn under the tutelage of the old order and then they blow up to become the star they were created to be.
