The Bible in Deutronomy 22:5 says "A man shall not wear the garment of a woman and a woman shall not wear the garment of a man",
Has anyone ever wondered why God will give the isrealites such a law and for what purpose, it should also be considered that most of the laws that were given by Moses are no longer applicable in our world today for many obvious reasons.
There are a some questions that these particular law in the Bible creates;

1. Why did God give such a law to the isrealites ?
2. Why do modern Christians attribute that law to modern day fashion?
3. In many parts of the world where fashion style differ due to different cultures, example Scotland where men wear kilts (skirts), which is known to be for women, are the men in those countries biblically wrong for wearing them?

There have always been men that want to be have like women and women that want to be have like men among us....

it’s a practice common among the pagans that were neighbours to isreal....

That’s what God warned against in those times.... a woman that dress smartly wearing trousers and a good blouse looking like a decent lady has not committed any wrong doing according to Deuteronomy 22v5....

A man that wear skirt is Scotland is not committing sin... it’s a traditional attire known to men too in that location... the men don’t wear it with the intention of behaving like women or cross dressing

There are those who teach the Law, those who teach Grace, there are those who muddle both.


The issue of fashion is entirely decided by designers, culture, and civilization. What was given to Israelites, was a burden they could not bear.

8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence. 9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled. 10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together. 11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

It was a sin to wear clothes made of different materials or eat anything reaped from a multi - cropping.farm.


The Israelites themselves were overwhelmed with the obedience to these rules.

God gave this law to His people to help them keep away from homosexuality and Lesbianism.
People who engage in this acts must put on the attributes of the opposite sex. That's why one gay must act as the wife and one lesbian must act as the husband. So if men always put on their masculinity and women their feminity homosexuality or lesbianism can't thrive in the human society.
As for clothing, fashion and styles God has no business with that as long as such fashion clearly portrays the gender!

The reason why I created this thread was to address some issues we have with Christianity today;

For example in Nigeria, most churches frown at women that wear trousers because they feel trousers are men's clothing and shouldn't be worn by women.

However this is so wrong both morally and logically because there's no law that clearly states that trousers belong exclusively to a man.
The ironic fact here is that our African ancestors (both men and women) never wore trousers before the Europeans came, so what gave most African christians the notion that women wearing trousers are committing sin.?

I once attended Service at one Christ embassy church and the pastor made a very good point on that topic, he said that it had nothing to do with fashion but it had to do with the bodily discharge of a woman, Moses actually gave the law so that the man wouldn't defile himself.

Woman shall not wear what belongs to a man, and vice versa...

Women should not wear... Trousers, cap, T-shirt,Polo, singlet, Men Slippers and shoes, Boxers, etc

Men should not wear blouse, skirt, Kilt, wrapper, high heel etc....
