Why Do Igbos Place So Much Value On Ancestral Land Than The One Bought .. by Ezeama400: 3:51pm On Nov 26, 2021
I want to know and understand why Igbos place so much value on Ancestral land than the one bought with money in this recent time/age ..

Take for example...A rich Igbo man would rather fight over a plot of land he believes that's from his ancestors and build house there to live, than buying plots of land to build a house of his choice inside the same community...

Is there any special thing about ancestral land than made people to attach so much importance to it ?

Again, Do people of olden days use to sell land to each other like this generation do ?

Ancestral land goes beyond mere inheritance.
It is a thing of pride and prestige to have.

It is responsibility.
It encompasses the history of your family, root and place in the contemporary Igbo society.

I don't know what will make a man sell a land his father and grandfathers built their Obis on.
It should be a sin to do so.

Ancestral Land is something transferred from generation to generation for their descendants as evidence that they are the original owners of a place.

Even naboth in the bible insisted on not selling his ancestral Land

The typical Igbo man is well rooted to his land. An Igbo man is connected to the the spiritual world, the world of his ancestors through his ancestral land. Everything we do is linked to the land, this is why Ala/Ani/Ana/Ali/Eli is the most prominent deity (a goddess) in Igbo speaking realm.
When you commit abomination, you are said to have defiled the land ie "nso Ani" and must purify it (Ikpu alu/Ikpu Ani)
Many had suggested that the bond between the Igbo man and his land is the chief reason why the Igbo didn't expand their lands much to encroach other tribes. In Ancient Igboland, the only people who migrated in Igboland are those who committed one crime or the other in their own ancestral lands and were either banished or had to run on their own for their own lives.
The most favoured to live and be buried in their ancestral lands.

When everywhere is potopoto..

Why flati no go die for land.

I'd rather sell my ancestral land in Agege Lagos and relocate to Lekki peninsula.

Cos enough land abounds.

Na poorman dry die for land matter.

When such question comes from someone bearing Igbo name, then there is problem. people born on the wayside with any form of roots.
Abandon your ancestral land to others the go buy lands because you alone is buoyant enough for such. come to public forum and dance naked lets cheers you. Efulefu, in the making...
