Continuing from yesterday's story about the passion I had for Bendel insurance fc,I once cried in a match involving Bendel insurance fc and their local Derby rival club then Bendel United fc.The match was barely 30 minutes on when Bendel United fc scored Bendel insurance fc,this outraged the fans of Bendel insurance fc as they invaded the pitch to beat up the referee,I just burst into tears and was consoled by my uncle who brought me to the stadium.sadly that was the day one major ojo died as he was trying to protect the referee.The rivalry in football in Benin city was very fierce then as we had New Nigeria Bank fc then who had the likes of late Stephen Keshi,Henry Nwosu playing for them.Henry Nwosu was a star player just like Austine okocha for Nigeria national team.Then I lit a candle stick and I prayed for Henry Nwosu to score in a national team match and I told my uncle that Henry Nwosu will score in the match,alas he really scored.Henry Nwosu had a colleague who plays for NNB then called Jones who was staying close to my house then,my uncle then introduced me to Henry Nwosu and told him what I did,he was very glad and hugged me.story to be continued credit uyimarshal@yahoo.com

I remember those glorious days of the Nigerian league. Never missed an edition of match of the week at 10pm on Sunday anchored by Akinloye Oyebamji. I remember how I nearly couldn't sleep when Leventis United defeated Abiola Babes 1:0 in the 1986 Challenge Cup final. The days when Asero Stadium would be sold out for any Babes match. The days of Stationery Stores and their mad dog fanbase. The days of "Up Sooting!" in Ibadan. Those were the days.

Leventis United were the Manchester City of Nigerian League,they were so good they were were called sensational Leventis United.Their Jersey was white and pure quality.They had a very strong team so also was Abiola babies and stationery stores,the league was fun to watch in those days.Match of the week on TV was priceless.
