Hi, everyone and Afrofactic fellows. I’m Benjamin. Today, we will deal with 21 facts about another Nigerian top movie, Oloture. It’s about a journalist who went undercover as a sex worker to uncover human trafficking in Lagos.

1. The border was built and set from scratch. All the cars, trucks, hawkers, okadas were all brought in over two days. In total, about 400 people were on set that day.
2. The girls acting sex worker shot those scenes on the road of the red-light district aka Allen Avenue in Lagos. If you remember Weird MC’s allen avenue song
3. The naked bodies are stunt doubles for some of the actors like Sharon, Omowunmi.
4. Production visited real brothels to get a feel for how sex workers lived together.
5. The film was shot in 21 days towards the end of 2018.
6. The script for Òlòturé is partly based on reporting by Nigerian investigative journalist Tobore Ovuorie. A freelance reporter with a burning desire to uncover the truth about a sordid backstreet truth.
7. Within days after its release, Òlòturé ranked among the Top 10 watched movies in the world on Netflix behind Citation, another Nigerian movie
8. Omowunmi Dada, who played Linda, smoked around 14 sticks for the first time on set for the first scene. Make sense, Sango! We see you trying to reincarnate.
9. She also had to learn the Edo language for the movie.

10. Oloture is the first of many deals between Netflix and Ebony life.
11. Journalist Tobore Ovuorie claims Ebonylife took her work without actually paying her.
12. Mo Abudu, Oloture's ebonylife’s CEO, said they obtained the right from Premium Times to use the story.
13. Oloture is the first Nigerian film original on Netflix.
14. This is because the film Oloture was initially released on October 31st, 2019. But was kept on hold because in 2018, an Austrian film called “Joy” was released on Netflix. It’s also a film about how a young Nigerian woman finds herself caught up in the world of trafficking abroad.
15. Ebonylife is the first African production company that Netflix has signed a multiple title deal with
16. Kenneth Gyang, the director, was already working on another trafficking story called El Dorado Road, which was selected at EAVE Producers Workshop.
17. Thus, he has become the first director of a Netflix original
18. Smbasa Nzeribe played a similar role of a villain in the wedding party 1, a film produced by Ebonylife too.
19. Journalist Tobores received Deutsche Welle(DW) 2021 freedom of Speech award for her investigation.
20. Tobores worked for eight months.
21. Some of the rooms used in the movie were used previously by sex workers
