Students who did not meet the cut-off mark in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and gained admission into the University of Abuja may lose their admission, the Vice-Chancellor Professor James Adelabu said on Saturday.

Prof Adelabu could not give the exact figure of students at the 20th matriculation ceremony held for the first time at the main campus as there were also students who had gotten admission in other schools on the list sent from the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Adelabu however said when the inconsistencies were cleared the number of new students would not be less than 2,000 into both Regular and Distance Learning academic programmes of the university.

He said regarding the welfare of students, management had sunk ten additional boreholes and provided storage facilities; the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) had energized the power station on the main campus and transportation had been subsidized to N50.

He urged the students to engage in positive academic activities and display high moral standards.

“You should shun examination malpractices, cultism, intolerance and all other negative acts which are bound to impact negatively on your character,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor said management was also developing infrastructural facilities for the four new programmes – Human Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture and Engineering which had accreditation problems with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
