The World Health Organization stated that Omicron, the more infectious strain of Covid has less severe effects than the Delta variant in both old and young patients.

Janet Diaz, WHO lead on clinical management, said there was a reduced risk of hospitalization from the variant first recorded in South Africa. WHO noted the variant should not be treated as 'mild' as infections are soaring. Countries that closed their borders to African nations should open them with this development.
