Workers at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital protests after their colleague identified as Otote Osaikhuomwan was shot dead by gunmen today, February 15.

It was gathered that the 38-year-old doctor was shot dead by suspected assassins in the early hours of Monday.

Salemgists gathered that the deceased who works at the Department of Ophthalmology was killed in the presence of his pregnant wife after the gunmen gained access into his house located at GRA, Benin, the Edo state capital.

The sad development was confirmed in a statement by the Edo State Command Police Public Relations, Bello Kongtons.

Kongtons said;

“Yes, the doctor was shot dead. The police is working to unravel the circumstance behind the killing and arrest the perpetrators.”

Meanwhile, his colleagues who were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions embarked on a one day protest this morning.

According to the protesting doctors the deceased was shot in his chest in the early hours of Monday morning at his residence in GRA Benin City in presence of his pregnant wife.

The Doctors appealed to the Nigerian Government to provide adequate security in the Country, adding that the killing of doctors in the country will lead to an increase in the brain drain and Elevated exit of Doctors from the country.

Sad very sad, being a resident of naija is now the among the thousand ways to die.

In America criminals are afraid of killing police officers. Because they know there is a consequence for the action.

If Nigerian boys will speak with one voice and demand accountability for the death of any Nigerian son, I promise you this, all this untimely death would be averted.

When criminals take the life of any of our youth, we would never rest until we find out the killer, put fear into the minds of killers. Let them know there is consequence.

If our boys would unite, no police officer can take the life of any male in Nigeria, indefinite investigation will be sped up when a life of a man is taken.

In my area, nobody dares touch a military man because the consequences is severe. Let us learn, let us make the boy child's life special.
