Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart(in short all his novels sef) Chinamanda Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun Elechi Amadi's The Concubine Camara Laye's African Child so many others but they are plays so the above will tick the boxes in the novel genre. |

The poster of this post made a hell of a mistake by not asking the question properly, Did he mean Your best African novel or best African play cos alot of people even the poster says Wole Soyinkas' THE LION AND THE JEWEL is his best African novel. That's ridiculous! Mine's like this- Best Afrrican novel Things Fall apart - Chinua Achebe( author of the century) The Oil man of Ogbanje- john Munonye The Beautiful Ones are not yet born - Ngugi W'thiongo Purple Hibiscus- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Mission to Kala- Mongo Beti Best African play The Interpreters- Wole Soyinka The Gods are not to blame- ola Rotimi The Marriage of Anansewa- Efua Sutherland |

My best all time african novel is "The beautiful ones are not yet born" by Nguigi w'thoingi i hv read loadz of african novels and i alwaz understood them on d first read (even though i wasnt a literature student)but when i read the beautiful ones are not yet born, i didnt quite get a hang of it d 1st time, then i read it again (slowly) and voila i felt lyk i had discovered a treasure! Nguigi told more than a story in the beautiful ones are not yet born! I kinda liked jero plays, lion and d jewel and Ake by wole soyinka. Also, al the novels i read by chinua achebe were on point. More recently, half of a yellow sun by chinamanda adichie. Guess ,african writers are blessed. |
