Please, I'd like to know who has the right, whether by law or by tradition, to the children between two people who are not legally married. Is it the mother or the father? |

Court will decide who has the right in case of if one party wants sole custody...if the court grants it..then the party that wants sole custody gets the child..please note that this is for minors..UNDER 18 or 21 depending on the country once the child is an adult (18 or 21 years depending on the country) has a right to choose who he or she wants to be with.. However,In many Nigerian patriarchal cultures, women bear and raise children but the children ‘belong’ to the man. This is hinged on the overarching principle of customary law that denies a mother’s lineage and strongly upholds patrilineage. If the couple divorce, the mother leaves the children for the ‘owner’ – the father. |

No one has the right...It is a joint effort...A team work to nurture the child to maturity...It was a team effort to make the baby... Hence a joint effort to raise him/her. Children are not properties.. 3 Likes |
