The construction processes of a warehouse.

I will be sharing two different warehouses construction processes here. The first was a new work and the other a renovation/ rehabilitation work.

New warehouse construction

This is a composite structure. It comprises of the structural steel ( the portal frame) and the reinforced concrete members of various sizes that were partitioned into various spaces.
These are the offices, large open storage spaces, cloakrooms and toilets.


This project has been completed and delivered. We started the construction works in July 2021 and delivered / handed-over in March 2022.

Pad footing was used for the columns while the walls were placed on strip footing.

From levels taken we realized that the site is quite lower than the road level. So we reconsidered the depth of excavation to accommodate this level difference. Our intention is to ensure easy and quick flow of runoff or stormwater out of the site.

Sandfilling with laterite.

The volume of filling used was quite much in order to achieve a level higher than the existing road level.

Solid filling the hollow with lean concrete while spreading of the laterite filling continues with the bulldozer.

The steel members on site: univeral beams, columns and mesh. The mesh were used for partition.


Also the holding down bolts are in place ready for casting.

The holding down bolts and the base plate are very key elements in the installation of the stanchions.

Their size and correct postioning play major roles in the installation process.

Steel installation: Portal frame

The steel columns (UC) and beams ( UB) are being installed. This was done after 2weeks (14days) of casting the columns to enable the concrete attain certain strength.

The sandfilling with laterite and spreading also continued during this period. The volume of fill was much so we had to use a bull dozer to push and dump the laterite into the building panels.

We also had some rainfall which helped to compact the soil.

This is necessary because of the intended use of the structure.

We didn't use BRC mesh for this project rather Y10mm @300mmc/c was used.
