5 tips to shop more safely online and protect your privacy
Online purchasing is no longer the novelty it was three decades ago when the internet first appeared. Scammers and cyber-criminals have taken notice of all the money pouring over the internet. Fortunately, there are a few basic actions you can take to reduce your exposure and secure your personal information.

1. Locate the lock symbol.

A lock icon appears to the left of the URL when you're on a secured website. On unprotected websites, the URL will start with "http" rather than "https." “https” indicates that the website has been protected with a digital certificate, ensuring that your data is not intercepted by a third party. Certificate Authorities provide these endorsements, and web browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla keep lists of Certificate Authorities they trust.

2. Use a password manager

It's critical to have a strong and unique password to secure your information on sites where you shop frequently. However, remembering a strong and unique password for each website you visit is a lot to ask of your brain. Password managers can help with this.

Password managers come pre-installed on browsers like Chrome and Safari and most smartphones as well as most smartphones — and frequently advise strong passwords when you first create an account with a website. You'll just have to remember one password this way.

3. Be skeptical of customers’ testimonials.

It's easy to be swayed by a nice star rating in the age of online buying. According to a study by Michael Luca, an associate professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, “an increase of one star on Yelp improves a restaurant's sales by 5% to 9%”

However, avoiding the most polarized viewpoints is beneficial. Look for reviews around the middle, which are more likely, to be honest, and informative. It's also a good idea to compare more expensive goods to professional ratings from reputable sources.

4. Keep track of your transactions on a regular basis.

Even if you do everything correctly, your information can be taken. That's why it's critical to keep a close eye on your bank account and credit cards: The sooner you detect fraud, the sooner you can put a stop to it.

Some scammers aren't just wanting to make purchases on your money; they're also looking to register accounts in your name using your information. It's also a good idea to routinely monitor your credit report through a credit bureau or online service, in addition to examining your transactions for unusual behavior.

5) Use anti-malware software

Using a good anti-malware or antivirus tool can help you secure yourself even more. It's a good idea to utilize this whenever you shop online, whether on your computer or on your phone. Fortunately, most packages provide cross-platform protection, and many of them also include features such as VPN access and password management, allowing you to manage all of your security settings from a single location.

How To Stop Buffering
What is Buffering?

In the simplest words, "buffering" is when your device pauses in the middle of an activity. Your system will pause your task until enough data has been downloaded to allow the music or video stream to play smoothly. Though buffering may seem inconvenient at first, it is designed to help you stream more smoothly.

This little lag is most noticeable at the start of a video, but it can also occur while opening new web sites, streaming music, or using mobile apps.

Causes of buffering:

1) How many devices are simultaneously connected?

It's easy to forget how many other devices are low-key Wi-Fi vampires in our modern technology-driven economy, when millions of common products are getting upgraded for internet access. Linked cameras, doorbells, tablets, smart speakers/voice assistants (like the Amazon Echo), smartwatches, connected lighting, and so on are all devices that can slow down your network.

2) What’s happening on those devices?

Examine how many of your devices are currently active at any given time. If you have four cellphones in your house, two of which belong to adolescents who are always on YouTube and Snapchat, Netflix streaming on your smart TV may suffer as a result.

Buffering Hacks:

1) Webpage won’t load: Close any tabs that aren't needed. Switch to a different browser or restart your browser (i.e., try using Chrome instead of Safari). Some websites perform better in different browsers.

2) Music streaming won’t play: Allow additional data to download by pausing the music player.

3) Video stream won’t play: Allow enough data to download by pausing the video. Reduce the quality of your streaming service's playback.

4) App is freezing: Delete the app and reinstall it. In the settings tab, close or turn off background applications

5) General buffering and lag: Update your device's virus protection. Viruses and malware can slow down systems or upgrade your internet speed.

MICROSOFT RETIRES INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER AFTER 26 YEARS
Internet Explorer is no longer available. After nearly 27 years, Microsoft is retiring Internet Explorer today. The old web browser is being phased out in favor of Microsoft Edge, with support for IE 11 officially ending today. With the release of Windows 10 in 2015, Microsoft abandoned the Internet Explorer branding, signaling the end of an era for the internet.
Little has changed for customers. Internet Explorer usage has declined in recent years, with “StatCounter” suggesting IE has less than half of the overall browser market share. For years, Microsoft has attempted to discourage users from using Internet Explorer, referring to it as a "compatibility solution" rather than a browser that businesses can use.
Over the next few months, Microsoft will begin rolling out a new popup that will move anyone still using Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge. Internet Explorer will eventually be permanently deactivated as part of a future Windows release. More information regarding how Microsoft is handling the removal of Internet Explorer from Windows may be found here.

While Microsoft's Chromium-powered Edge browser is now the default in Windows 11, the MSHTML engine that powers Internet Explorer remains. It exists just for IE mode in Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft has stated that IE mode in Edge will be supported until at least 2029.
Some organizations will still be caught off guard by Internet Explorer's retirement, or will not have been able to completely phase it out in time. According to Nikkei, certain Japanese government agencies and financial institutions have been reluctant to respond to IE retirement. The Japan Pension Service website, for example, must still be viewed in Edge's IE mode.
Windows 11 users won't have to worry about Internet Explorer because the operating system doesn't even offer an accessible version of the browser. It's the first time in more than 20 years that Microsoft hasn't included Internet Explorer with a new version of Windows.

5 Smart Home Trends

Smart home technology has thankfully not attempted to replace anyone's mother, it has come a long way. New home technologies have really taken off, with devices being introduced for every room in the house. People are buying homes today with an eye toward the existing smart home tech that is already included, rather than saving smart trends for the most expensive homes or saving them for an upgrade year’s road. These are some of the most important smart home tech trends right now.

1) Integration:

One of the top smart home trends is the increasing integration of smart home technology. As previously stated, it has almost become a necessity rather than a luxury, and with increased expectations has come increased connectedness and ease of use.

From the standpoint of pure integration, more smart home devices are beginning to communicate with one another. For example, multiple rooms in your home can be outfitted with Google Home speakers that can work as a group(s) rather than as individual units.

2) The Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial intelligence is getting better at understanding commands and responding in more relevant ways. Residents of smart homes can use AI to play music, update their to-do list, turn lights on and off, and much more.

The internet of things (essentially connecting all of the world's things to the internet) is still a more complicated process to grasp, but progress in the smart home world in terms of IoT will have a lot of implications for making life easier, particularly in the smart kitchen and smart bathroom space.

3) Home Office:

With the widespread shift to working from home, smart home innovations, particularly for home offices, drew attention last year and continue to evolve as companies extend office closures and even transition to hybrid or permanent work from home policies. The potential for growth in this space is just beginning, with technology ranging from noise-canceling windows to drown out the neighbor mowing their lawn to AI filters to hide the messy living room when you jump on a video call with your boss.

4) High-Speed Internet Access:

A high-speed internet connection via mesh Wi-Fi is one of the prerequisites for future smart homes. Slow connections and dead zones caused by walking away from your router will be a thing of the past once mesh Wi-Fi connects your main router directly to the well. The rest of the smart home devices you install will have a high-speed connection throughout the house.

5) High-Tech Security:

Smart home security systems are being developed to protect the outside in order to ensure the safety of all of the smart home tech inside. These devices will become more interconnected, allowing you to monitor and control your home from anywhere.

Houston home automation sensors. With their help, a burglar alarm for a private house registers the presence of strangers at the facility. There is a huge selection of sensors that use different physical principles of operation. One of the most common types of sensors are infrared and ultrasonic motion detectors.
