Every child is entitled to maternal and child health services, and their mothers should have access to high-quality prenatal and postnatal care. The birth of a new child should be a joyous occasion, yet it is a source of anxiety for many mothers throughout the world. Every day, we get reports of over 1000 women dying from problems during pregnancy and childbirth, according to the World Health Organization. Given the proper funding and care, the majority of these deaths may be avoided.

The majority of these deaths occur in the Global South, with rural areas accounting for a disproportionately high number.

Women, babies, and children are particularly prone to health concerns in these isolated settings. Women and children sometimes have to walk for days to get to health centers because they do not have access to alternate modes of transportation. Even once they arrive at the facilities, they may discover that they are understaffed or underequipped.

Indigenous women and girls are more likely to have poorer maternal health outcomes and are routinely discriminated against and abused by healthcare workers. For example, most women in some African countries like Kenya and Namibia are capable of giving birth without any medical assistance.
