Four female passengers of a commercial bus have died in a fatal accident that occured on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Other passengers of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injury in the crash which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 1.

The Lagos State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Route Commander, Olabisi Shonusi.

"The crash occured on Sunday 1st May, 2022 at about 0550hrs when a Toyota Hiace with registration number FST 241 YC grey coming from Adekunle inter-change inward Iyana-oworo had a tyre burst on top speed and capsized with 20 occupants (9 Male, 11 female).

"5 of the occupants sustained injuries, while 3 female adults were confirmed dead at the spot. The additional one female died at the Hospital when the FRSC team went for follow-up at General Hospital, Marina.”

"All first responders at the scene comprising FRSC, the Nigeria Police, LASTMA and LASEMA Rescue Unit rescued the injured victims, and the corpses were taken to General Hospital Marina," the statement added.

Most wouldn't expect they could meet their end intra-state and of all places the TMB even if they were told they'd be exiting this world via an auto mishap, and to crown it all, they would have posted and wished family and friends "a happy new month" without knowing it would be an unhappy one for their fnf.

U see having a burst tyre of suspension at top speed is not so dangerous,it all boils down to how the driver turns the steering,I'm sure no hand brakes, and the idiot won't put gear on neutral. Just today,I would have crashed my rx,as abt 5.30 pm. A stupid corrolla decided to do wrong u turn while I was approaching the right and he was on the left,b4 u know it I had to swerve and apply leg brakes to do a 360 turn if not,na him fender and door I wan go damage. He later came down begging and apologising cos he saw hold up in front. Thank God I was not distracted. Some ppl drive like idiot s. My last accident was a burst tyre from behind and I was doing 120kph. I ended up inside a ditch,with minor bruise. My back tyre bend,and for that the car started doing break dance b4 I applied handbrake and screeching sound. When I woke up from the shock,as around 11pm. Road safety Corps don't use to check all these commercial vehicles....what they r after is guys with new cars and cars with new plate numbers....

In the first place, high way wasn't design for mini - bus. Its for heavy vehicle and cars...And if a mini - bus must use it, it must be without passengers. Maybe the mini - bus driver was competing with vehicles and cars in other to meet up with his daily target and let people died without saying goodbye. What a tragedy way to die and it pain me in,irony!!

20 occupants,in that small bus,20 occupants,most death in Nigeria could be avoided sometimes if we really apply safety,these cars have limit weight it should carry but Nigerian will over load a car till its smelling overload all over it..rip to the dead ones,there is a reason oyibo fit in seat belt in cars .
