The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination.

Something similar happened in 2013.

There's a place at the Murtala Muhammed Airport that is known as the Airplane Graveyard. That is where planes were abandoned for many years. FAAN gave the owners of the abandoned planes a deadline to remove them. The owners of one of the disused planes sold it to Captain Ekeinde (Omotola's husband) who wanted to start an aviation school in Badagry. The plane was being towed to Badagry when the tow truck developed a fault near a petrol station in Igando. A rumour immediately spread that a plane had crashed in Igando. I had to post a correction on the Nairaland thread.

A plane was being towed on a Lagos road a few years later and there was another rumour of a plane crash. Some people on that thread said that it was only in Nigeria that a plane could be towed on an expressway and I showed them that it happens around the world (for example, a plane that was being towed in India got stuck beneath a bridge).

The news was fake and faked is the news.
