Nigeria international Ekigho Ehiosun has signed a one -year deal with an option for an additional two years with Turkish Super League club Samsunspor.

The bulky 21 - year- old forward scored 17 goals in 41 games last season for Warri Wolves. In addition, he has scored eight times in 11 games in national team colors.

Ehiosun says he is delighted to sign for Samsunspor and hopes to achieve his targets for the 2011 - 2012 season.

The striker has been a regular for the Super Eagles and the U-23s since making his national team debut against Sierra Leone in Lagos in February.
He had initially rejected an offer from South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, insisting that he would only accept the right offer.

Not sure this a good move being that the club just gained promotion to the Turkish Super Lig in the concluded season but at least he won't be lonely @ Samsunspor cos they've got another Nigerian (Simon Zenke). grin

Hopefully, he'll do like Emmanuel Emenike and use it as a springboard to move to a bigger and better club.

Congrats to him!

Congrats to him. Good that he is joining a club without many notable stars, so he is assured of regular playing time. I am happy for him. I have watched him and seen his doggedness and passion whenever he plays.

I wish him the best.

I believe he will succeed there and move to a better club in europe. And I like the short-term contract, he is a wise guy unlike most desperate Nigerian footballers who end up regretting their actions caused by greed, he will get better chance soon as long as he performs

Everyone talking bout his age. I don't understand why we chose to pull the next guy down even when he doesn't know you exist. Its a trait I find quite dominant in Africans, most especially Ghanaians, but this coming from Nigerians is suprising to say the least. Does Tevez really look 27 ? Does Aguero look 23? But you will never here Argentines talk like this about them. SMH@the haters.

Re: Nigerian Forward Ekigho Ehiosun Joins Turkish Club- Samsunspor by kjhova(m): 10:12am On Jul 19, 2011
The facts:
Ekigho moved to Warri Wolves for free in 2008 after rising through the youth sqaud at Delta United. He burst into the Wolves first team towards the end of his first season and truly blossomed in his second. By season 2010/2011, his third, he had become an International player with Nigeria. After 8 goals in 11 internationals for the age-grade and seniors in 2011, Ekigho became the most sought after product from the domestic set-up this summer.
Indeed Ajax Amsterdam and Lille OSC made enquiries; however the most serious offers came from PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns, Turkish new comers Karabukspur and Polish giants Legia Warsaw. Sundowns, who are likely to loose thier Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela to Glasgow Celtic this summer, were eager to make Ehiosun the ready replacement. Unfortunately for them, Ehiosun's camp did not regard the PSL that much. Wolves also turned down a Euros1million bid for Ehiosun from Legia Warsaw this June because the club is convinced that the player will be worth a lot more in a year. Thus the willingness only to let him go on a loan deal.
The loan deal was almost struck with Karabukspor last week when the current "Bank Asya league" (read that to mean Turkish division 2) runners-up Samsunspor suddenly hijacked the move. They agreed to pay Euros250,000.00 for a season long loan for Ehiosun with an option to extend such for two years.
The deal officially runs from 11-July-2011 till 30-June-2012.

I find it interesting everytime we bash our players when they make a move abroad. It is usually the wrong club or wait for your time or the wrong league or such small transfer fee or why not stay at home!
Many of these remarks are, sadly, based on ignorance of the circumstances. Quick facts below might help you re-examine your opinion if you are far and fair minded:
1 - The NPL has little mileage. Even you don't watch it (I am guessing). Thus the footballers can't command higher fees.
2 - Big European clubs have very wide scouting network and so may keep an NPL player in thier radar for a long time but never make a valid offer. It is usually not wise to wait for them.
3 - A typical NPL player will have difficulty adapting to food, culture, weather, language and expectation in Europe hence it is wise to start with a small club and learn the ropes rather than getting lost in the maze of a big club.
4 - South America has an advantage over Africa. Domestic football over their is better managed and the clubs have historical relationship with European clubs.
5 - Injuries are a threat to football careers. Every extra day you play in the NPL, if you are Ehiosun, risks ruining your chance in life for good. A serious Eduardo type injury before your move to Europe and that's it. Over before you had a chance to start.
6 - Every player on the planet will like to play for Barcelona or any other big European club. But hey, do you seriously think such clubs know that the NPL exist? Turkey is a good place to start. Exactly like Ahmed Musa did with VVV Venlo in Holland.
7 - NPL players, like you and I, come from large and impoverished families. No matter how we try, we cannot ignore the fact that their are pressing bread & butter issues desperately requiring money.
