At Last, Mtn Retains Npl Sponsorship Rights by honeric01(m): 5:28am On Jul 17, 2011 |
14 Jul 2011 09:31:40 Telecommunications firm, MTN has won the rights to sponsor the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) for the next four years. Following intense deliberations by the congress of the NPL in Abuja on Wednesday, a resolution was reached to endorse MTN, represented by total promotions, as sponsors of the domestic football league in Nigeria. The deal, worth N2.6 billion for the first year will attract an annual increase of 10 percent annually. The sum of 605 million naira has been earmarked for release by the telecommunications firm as sponsorship fee for the first year of the contract and the first year, with the stipulated percentage triggered in subsequent years. MTN, via total promotions initially beat off competition from rivals, Globacom in December, 2010 to emerge as title sponsors of the NPL . Globacom however challenged the decision of NPL to select MTN arguing that MTN was never entered in the bidding process. http://mobi.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/110714/MTN_wins_NPL_sponsorship_rights |
