I hail from Idemili south and I would tell you that the information is very true. Python is almost like agama lizards in my town you can spot them anywhere at any time.

My guy who schooled in Anambra used to kill them and put in the bag. He travels with them to Benin to make pepper soup. He did it for years before he graduated from there.

In my local government Orumba North. It's forbidden to kill python and tortoise. It's a big offense. Python usually enter our compound, we will flog them and warn them not to enter that they are not welcome. Yet, they kept coming.

On the order hand,they eat a lot of pests and help to keep them in check..

Awka and Amawbia are different people with different origins.

Awka aborigines do not kill monkeys, infact you'll see monkeys around Eke-Awka and Amaenyi and environs playing happily on trees, but if the monkey crosses into Amawbia, it may find itself in a pot of soup.
Conversely, you don't kill pythons in Amawbia, but if the python misses it road to Awka, na big meat.

Infact, these animals seem to even know the boundaries better than humans and never seem to cross boundaries from where they tolerated or conserved into another.

Am from the LGA called njaba in imo state, python is not worshiped in my community, but we don't kill it aswell. Porchers come from neighbouring communities in disguise to capture and sell them, but if they catch you, you might be asked to pay huge fine.

Idemili river in Anambra state flows across several states in the east and most communities the river flows across don't kill python and ijaba river in my LGA takes some part of it's source from that idemili river

Python is non venomous and Since I was a kid, I haven't heard of anyone constricted and killed by the snake in my community, when it bites, they will just rub one local ointment around the area to make it heal quickly.
