I met this my friend here in NL but he hardly comes here,

He applied for Canadian visa willing to travel July 20th but his stuffs has not
been released by the embassy. What do you think might be the outcome and how
can he get his passports back as he needs it for other stuffs.

Most times you have to apply for your visa atleast 3months to your travel date to be on the safe side.
The embassies are usually really busy during the summer periods and most ppl who plan summer holidays dnt get to make it.
He or she can contact the embassy to findout about the status of the application.
