Very Revd. Fr Michael Murphy @91

While we mourn the passing on of Bishop Dodo, we cannot but celebrate the life of Fr Michael Murphy, CSSp.

Born on July 8, 1931 in Ireland, the young Murphy migrated to England where he answered the call to the Holy Priesthood and was ordained on June 26, 1960 for the Congregation of the Holy Spirit.

In 1961, Fr Murphy alongside many others was sent to Nigeria on Mission and after orientation was posted to Makurdi diocese.

Fr Murphy has worked at so many places some of which include Korinya, Vandeikya and Adikpo in present day Gboko Diocese; Zaki-Biam and Katsina-Ala in Katsina-Ala diocese, Ss Peter and Paul Aliade; St Theresa's High-level, St Peters Low-Level, and St Dominic Sachi all in Makurdi, Makurdi Diocese.

He has left indelible marks in all these places, some of which include;

Building of St Gerald Majella Church, now St Gerard Majella Cathedral, Katsina-Ala.
Establishment of Divine Love Girls Secondary School, Katsina-Ala.
Establishment of St Dominick's High School Tse-Ayu.
And etc.

It's also worthy of note that Fr Murphy is the last man standing among the hundreds of Irish Spiritan Missionaries sent to Nigeria.
