Why do people doubt the figures? As parts of the principles of corporate governance, all publicly quoted firms declare CEO earnings and compensations. Everything you need to know about the earnings of CEOs/Directors of PLC's are online (annual reports).

The most difficult tasks are the ones that involves critical thinking and managing other people not the foot soldiers that grinds the machine.

In Henry Ford voice, "Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it".

If you put those you said are working like machine in that position, don't be surprised the business might collapse in few months. You may think CEO & COO are not working, but when you get to that position you will realize they do far more work than you could imagine.
