Creating a bootable USB drive can sound so strange to a lot of people, especially when you are not 'techy'. But the truth is, a lot of people use computer in this modern age, most with Windows Operating System (OS) Installed on them.

How are you going to feel when your Computer's OS suddenly crashed or get corrupted and there is no that your 'techy guy' around to quickly help you get it fixed, especially when you have an urgent work to submit? Depressed right.

Don't you worry, as I'm going to be explaining step step guide on 'How to create a Bootable USB drive for Windows using Command Prompt'.
What is a Bootable USB Drive (Legacy)
Basically, when talking about how your computer boots, there are too modes to that. The traditional mode, which has been around for quite a long time called Legacy or Bios. And the modern mode of booting called UEFI meaning Unified Extensible Firmware Interface.

In this article, we will be focusing on how to create a legacy bootable Usb drive for windows specifically for windows 7 to Windows 10.

Items Needed For Creating a Legacy Bootable USB drive
1. USB flash drive or any related Usb device
2. A good working computer with functioning DVD drive.

3. A Bootable DVD of any Windows of your Choice.

How to create a bootable USB Legacy for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 OS
After getting all the above mentioned devices or items ready, the next step is to launch the 'diskpart' command from your computer desktop by pressing the ;Windows key + R' and then type in 'diskpart' on the 'run dialog box' that appear.
See the diagram below:

The next step after this is to type 'list disk' on the command prompt of diskpart that appeared on the screen as shown in the diagram below.

After this, is type 'clean' and then followed by 'Create Partition Primary' and also followed the command 'Select Partition 1'. See picture below:

Make the partition active by entering the command 'Active' and after this, is to format the disk by typing in the command 'format fs=ntfs quick'.
Note: you need to add 'quick' on the command in order to make the formatting faster, otherwise it's going to a very long time before the process is completed depending on the speed of the laptop you use.
Check the picture below:

After this is to assign the entire process by typing the command 'Assign' and followed by 'Exit' to leave the entire page. The diagram below shows the final process.

After the above process, the next stage is where you will insert your Windows DVD Rom on the computer DVD drive and then launch the RUN command again as done the beginning of the previous process. Press the 'Windows Key + R' and type in 'CMD' in the dialog box that appear.

At this time, you need to type in 'cd boot' on the command line and press enter and then follow it by the command line 'bootsect.exe /nt60 E:'. Note: the drive letter depends on the letter assigned to your USB drive by your computer. See the diagram below.

Once you see the message as shown in the diagram above, be rest assured that your USB drive is bootable ready. And what's next, you will have to open the Windows DVD Rom already inserted on the drive of your computer and copy the entire contents on it and paste it on your USB Drive. That's all, you now have your windows Bootable Legacy created successfully.

Conclusion.
Creating a Bootable USB drive is as easy as explained the the article above, this is a complete DIY (Do It Yourself) process as you don't need to be 'techy' before you can get this done. In the next article I will be explaining how to create a UEFI Bootable USB drive for Windows as well, so stay tuned.
