Yaya Toure Annual salary: $13.5 million Yaya Toure Annual salary: £8,295,950 Samuel Eto'o Annual salary: £7,374,178 Emmanuel Adebayor Annual salary: £7,374,178 Kolo Toure Annual salary: £6,329,503 Frederic Kanoute Annual salary: £5,284,828 Didier Drogba Annual salary: £4,916,119 John Mikel Obi Annual salary: £3,564,186 Michael Essien Annual salary: £3,379,832 One thing for sure is that Michael Essien earns more than Mikel in wages and sponsorship, even O Martins was earning more than Obi at Newcastle and he is now earning more Rubin Kazan Freddy Kanute doesnt even earn half the number quoted unless if he is into Oil and Gas |

Yaya Toure Annual salary: £8,295,950 @baby boy, even from ur own post above, mikel is somewhere ahead of essien. which year martins played for newcasttle? which year did n mikel sign his improved contract extension with chelsea? please what ever u believe, represent it with figures as money is only counted on figures and not by likeness or hatred. whenever it comes to mikel, nigerians must be greedy. maybe u will jump into the lagoon the day he becomes the highest paid player. unfortunately, u can't change the situation. 1 Like |

@baby boy, Baby boy was right, Mikel's improved contract took him to 70k, Essien is on the same wage package as Didier Drogba, Anelka and Ashley Cole (thats between 90-100k) |

I dont know who your fighting with but its not about Likeness or hatred, Obi's improved contract took him from around £40k to £70k a week! Thats what Essien was earning (£75k a week actually) when he arrived from Lyon because Chelsea was going to offer Steve Gerrard £90k before Gerrard changed his mind the following day then Chelsea pursued Essien! Now Essien now earns over £100k a week on par with the other big players (Drogba, Anelka and Cole) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/chelsea/article6994250.ece |

Essien earns more than Mikel in wages but when you factor in endorsement deals then Mikel trumps Essien. |

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @baby boy, that is nigerians for you. i am very surprised that mikel's name has been in the coolers for a very long time here on nairaland. apart from signing contracts or improved contracts, there is clauses in contracts which could let a player demand higher wages in between his contract. without let you say what you want to say about that, ask Tevez of Man city. in the last 3 seasons, essien has been a victim of long time injuries leaving him out for the majority of the season. what about the match bonuses that only those who play games earn? before those who paste that salary lists went ahead, it is possible they have made some inquiries. if both players are put up for sale now, who do u think will be higher? is mikel. essien undoubtedly is a high class or a world class or even heaven class player but injuries can reduce drastically the value of a player if you think am lying go and ask owen hargreves of man u. i am surprised to read that mikel earns more than essien but no matter how surprised or shattered most of us will be, football in like everyother business where workers are paid according to their contributions. mikel has his favour so what nigerians say or talk will not change a thing especially when the one signing the cheque leaves is not a nigerian. baby boy, get busy with something else. many like u have in many other times in the past have tried and fail. if you continue with this arguement, u will fail because you have no reason for your position. are surprised that torres who scored once for chelsea last season is earning more than 90% of the players in chelsea? going by ur reasoning, is torres surposed to earn more than kalou? yes - because he is not a nigerian i guess. pls go get a life. 1 Like |

@1025 Look I wont get involve in the mud-slinging with you, am not a Chelsea fan, I am a registered Chelsea supporter so I know what am talking about, Does Mikel has a higher re-sale value? Oh yeah, because of his age and injury record. yes their is a match bonus and winning bonuses, but Roman Abramovich has frozen all that in the last 2 years even before Peter Kenyon left! and I would repeat Mikel doesn't have any clause in his contract except for the option for an extra one year extension to his current contract and Mikel is in not in the position to demand for more money during his contract. Chelsea FC has only increased the value of 3 peoples contract before their contract ends! Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, John Terry and Jose Mourinho! Owen Hargreaves like Michael Owen at Newcastle were injured throughout their contracts, but they still picked up their wages at the end of the month, he only misses out on match and winning bonuses. |

Adebayor and Kolo Toure must be the most over-rated African players. Lucky for them, they got smart agents |
