The man may not be able to afford the fine and will end up in jail. It will cost the government a minimum of 50 thousand naira to take him through jail. After his jail term, he probably will have increased chances of going into crime due to joblessness and/or his new found friends from the prison. My summary is that the society is the loser when we have unnecessarily harsh sentences like these. 1 Like |
