The boy was rescued by neighbours and the case was reported to concerned authorities before Dr Yolanda George-David, a human rights advocate, took up the case.

While being questioned, the boy said his father flogged him with a wire.

The father admitted that he flogged his son with his charger cord and said he did so because he was angry.

He explained that he kept telling the child's mother to carry him but she refused, so, in anger, he flogged the boy with the cord.

When we say heating children should be criminalized, it's not because we want to take away your right to discipline your kids. It is because it leaves children at the mercy of adults with anger issues and other behavioral problems. Most of the time, parents hit thier kids out of anger and not necessarily to discipline them. This is regardless of whether the parent is right or wrong. It's almost as if they can do just about anything, and everyone would look the other way because it's thier kid. If we must flog, let it be only trained disciplinarians in schools who do that. And if that's not achievable, let there be laws against flogging on any other body part of the body apart from the palm and the buttocks

We can't just be unleashing our anger on these kids just because we know we can do it and nothing will happen. That is domestic violence. It speaks more about the parent than the kid. People who hit thier kids like this would gladly attack others if it they could get away with that too. So like I said, it's not always a corrective measure, but a behavioral issue on the aggressor's part. And that's sad cause such force and violence at home doesn't necessarily make better kids.
