Liverpool
Steven Gerrard remains sidelined due to a groin injury and is expected to return to action in September. He is joined by fellow midfielder Raul Meireles in the treatment room, as the former Porto man injured his collarbone during the game against Exeter City and is out for at least two weeks.

Glen Johnson is on the road to recovery from the thigh injury he sustained during a pre-season game against Valencia, but remains a doubt for this clash.

Team news: Bolton’s Marcos Alonso has become the latest Bolton defender to be hit by the club's injury jinx ahead of the trip to Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid man faces eight to 12 weeks out after suffering a broken metatarsal in the Carling Cup victory over Macclesfield.

He joins Tyrone Mears (broken leg), Sam Ricketts (Achilles) and Gretar Steinsson on the sidelines, although the Icelander could come into contention for the visit to Anfield after suffering bruising to his foot against Manchester City.

Tuncay Sanli will hope to retain his starting role after scoring on his debut against Macclesfield in midweek, but Ricardo Gardner may miss out again as he struggles to overcome a groin problem.

Match notes: After last week's impressive victory at the Emirates, and a morale-boosting goal for Andy Carroll in the Carling Cup in midweek, a crucial fixture for Kenny Dalglish: win, and Liverpool's early season momentum is assured, but lose and begin to see the £60 million or so spent this summer questioned. Bolton and manager Owen Coyle do not need reminding they have a woeful recent record at Anfield.
