Only three of the dam's eight generating units were serviceable with each of them generating 80 mega watts instead of 100

The World Bank has approved $82 million loan for the rehabilitation of the Kainji Dam.

This was disclosed by Chief Executive Officer of Kainji Hydro Electricity Plc, Reuben Akinwumi when the Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, visited the dam on an inspection tour.

Akinwumi said the loan deal was signed between the World Bank and Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, on June 27.
