In Race to Net-Zero Emissions via Social, Environmental and Economic Sustainability

Creative Youth Community Development Initiative, in partnership with LG Electronics Nigeria and The Art Hotel Lagos, will host "Post COP27: Race to Net-Zero via Social, Environmental and Economic Sustainability" on December 15, 2022, at The Art Hotel Lagos.

The event is a follow-up to the 'Just Act' campaign held during the United Nations Global Week to #Act4Sdgs on September 2022, in partnership with LG Electronics. The campaign, which utilizes Art, Movies and Music towards Net-Zero Emission, was launched with a focus on Food Security, Decent Work, Clean Energy and Waste to Wealth.

The discussion will bring together industry partners and stakeholders to share ideas on mobilizing everyone everywhere towards climate awareness, adaptation, and resilience. The hybrid event will welcome on-site and virtual participants from selected universities, academicians, financial institutions, private sector organizations, development partners, government officials, food and nutrition experts, international organizations, environmentalists, policymakers, youth groups and the media.

The Head of Marketing LG Electronics West African Operations, Mr. Hari Elluru, expressed his excitement to see LG Electronics at the forefront of creating a greener future. 'LG is committed to preserving the environment through its sustainable business model, which includes waste recovery, recyclable packaging materials (eco-packaging), low-carbon emission products, and green product manufacturing', he added.

The CEO and Project Director, Foluke Michael, applauded the Art Hotel and LG Electronics for their dedication to sustainability in Nigeria and worldwide with their eco-friendly business models. The world can achieve and preserve a liveable planet by keeping the global temperature at 1.5°C as called for in the Paris Agreement. The goal of a sustainable planet is only achievable when backed by substantial commitments that will help transit from current realities and behaviour to a more climate-friendly society.

"The time is right for us to move climate communities and activities from mutual admiration to mutual accountability that ensures we achieve our goals. Meeting this target will require more electric cars, sustainable products, utilization of innovative technology, climate-smart agriculture, recycling, renewable electricity, a shift from non-green lifestyles and a shift from over-reliance on fossil fuels", Foluke added.

The Post-COP27 dialogue will showcase Climate Art Exhibition and discuss practical ways to transform Nigeria's environmental sustainability from theory to practice. The event outcomes will be published in the next series of Just Act Magazine in 2023.

The recently launched Just Act movie shines a light on youth to take the driver's seat by advocating for clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, green transportation, waste to wealth and sustainable communities.
