Seriously, Animals are intelligent in the ways that they need to be.

They may not be able to do math or write essays, but they are wired to navigate their own life’s problems.

For example as illustrated in the pix below, some birds create a home with a fake room to confuse a predator:

The snake will see the room and realize his smell must have led him to the wrong place.

That simple design was brought about through the brilliance of evolution.

Animals are incredible in ways that an IQ test won’t capture. The human brain has a tremendous caloric demand. It needs tons of oxygen and burns ~20% of your daily calories (despite being only ~2–3% of your body weight). It wouldn’t be practical for other species.

Generally—a species is intelligent as it needs to be, but no moreso. Just never underestimate the intelligence of an animal because they will surprise you.
