If You Suffer From These 7 Sicknesses, Avoid Eating Rice by Tochukwuoparaa: 1:00pm On Jan 09, 2023
Rice is a staple food for millions of people around the world, but it may not be suitable for everyone. If you suffer from certain medical conditions, you may need to avoid eating rice or at least limit your intake. Here are eight common illnesses that may require you to be cautious with rice:

1. Celiac disease: This is an autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine and is triggered by the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but it may be contaminated with gluten during processing or if it is grown near fields that also grow gluten-containing grains. Therefore, if you have celiac disease, it is important to choose gluten-free rice and check the labels carefully.

2. Diabetes: Rice can be a part of a healthy diet for people with diabetes, but it is important to choose the right type and portion size. White rice has a high glycemic index (GI), which means it can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels. On the other hand, brown rice has a lower GI and is a better choice for people with diabetes. It is also important to measure the portion size, as rice can contribute to weight gain and worsen diabetes if consumed in excess.

3. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Rice can be a good choice for people with IBS, as it is low in fiber and easy to digest. However, some people with IBS may find that they are intolerant to certain types of carbohydrates called FODMAPs, which are found in rice and other grains. If you have IBS and experience symptoms such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea after eating rice, you may want to try a low-FODMAP diet or work with a dietitian to find a suitable alternative.
