Not holding brief for Nigerian men, but Nigerian men are known all over Africa for their heights.
Ask Ghanaian women.

But this thread is not really about men because men don't get much dating ratings for their heights.
Men get rated mostly for their WEALTH.
Women on the other hand get rated for their LOOKS, of which Height is one factor.
Hence this question.

Ahhhhha, Abi the short men eye tower over in Nigeria are Aliens?

It's very rare to see a man from Nigerian standing over 5ft9 upward. Unless with the shine of Jupiter [I.e luck, expansion, e.t.c ]. So my saying is this " a place where tall men are rare, why would their women add height "?.

No, they are still Nigerians. grin cheesy
But I can close my eyes and count the short men in my whole extended family (of about 300 people).:they are not more than 20 percent. Seriously. In the same family though, only about 10 percent of the women are tall (by women standards that is -5ft 9).
But I may be biased. cheesy

So you see I am still taller than then. Standing @5'10 short average height for Man.

In my father's side [my cousin residing in Saudi ] is the only one that can challenge my height. Then moving to my mother [only challenger is also a male ] the rest are not up to my height /some shared height with me. I am taller than my dad standing @5ft9 while mom standing @5f11.

You are a tall Nigerian man. Period.
You are supporting my theory.
Now, I want to see tall WOMEN here in Nairaland.
Let their numbers prove me wrong. grin

By "short" I mean under 5.5ft for women.
A man is only "really tall" through his money! If you doubt me ask Orji Kalu. cheesy

Thanks for the sarcasm but I believe you know what I mean.
It is true though that men get also rated for height by women: in fact A LOT.
Women prefer tall men generally. But if the choice is between a poor tall man and a rich short man, guess who a lot of women (whether tall or short) would pick for marriage? cheesy

Don't judge.
Everyone with their preferences.

I go for poor tall man, if he's potential and grounded down to earth.
I don't like mingle around short people including females. All my female friends [ they are tall and still not up to my standing level ].
Moreover most tall men are likely to be rich because of their height.

Not arguing this point, especially if there is no short/rich/grounded/down-to-earth man seeking your hand at the same time. cheesy

Women tend to be shorter than their men on average. I don’t believe that study online that says the average Nigerian man is 5’3 but whilst they’re not necessarily short, they’re not really known for their height either, just average.

So it makes sense that Nigerian women aren’t that tall on average either

OK, I hear.
He should be even smaller than microorganisms.

Ehhh... not so sure my sister.
Life hard well well ... for everybody.

Yesterday, I was about to dissed by two humans [male and female ] that are not even up to my ribcage.

Woman: omo you too tall ooh.
Me: I never tall.
Woman: you say?
Me: pple dy wher tall pass me, Go to Sudan,Netherlands /Canada , I'm short next to them.
man: Nah girl or boy.
Woman: ask am.
me: I be transge.nder. Don't call me too tall, because I am not like the regular Nigerian you see everyday in terms of height.

Tallness /short are determined by what you are standing next to[length
of a person /object in a vertical line ]
e. g
Me standing next to 5ft 8+9 won't be too tall in their eyes same goes to someone who is 6ft blah blah blah blah standing next to me won't look too tall in my eyes.

Where's the shortage?

You don't judge with your location, you need to check other areas as well.

I've been here barely one week and I can tell you for free that Nigerians ladies are tall because a good number of them are between 5.5 to 5.9s.

A lady of 5.5 to 5.9 is considered averagely tall for the gender.

Falsehood. It seems you have limited knowledge about heights. South Sudanese are generally taller, both males and females as being 6ft plus is so very common among the populace.

But I never said that Nigerian men are the tallest in Africa. undecided I only said that they are known for their heights.
Why does it have to be a zero sum game where tall south Sudanese mean short Nigerians? BTW who brought south sudanese into this discourse?
Why can't there be tall people from BOTH countries?
Like I said, there are far more tall men per capita than tall women these days in Nigeria. It wasn't like this before.
You may see 5-6 tall men out of 10 men in Nigeria. But you would see about 2-3 tall women out of the same 10.
It wasn't like this before. It used to be similar. That is why you find more tall men married to short women in Nigeria these days.
I only hope there are no genetic mutations going on without anyone noticing. You know we Africans are careless like that.

It is not about tallest but "being known for height" is my focus. When many other Africans think of Nigerian men, height don't even make the top 3 as they tend to relate them to being loud and aggressive (both real and imagined), being business savvy (legal and illegal), spenders, their high fashion sense, showing off luxury etc.

OK. what height range will you classify as being tall for a Nigerian man and also for Nigerian women?

For a Nigerian woman: 5:10 and above
