Afrobeats have been growing in popularity, especially on the international scene. In August 2022, popular Nigerian musician Rema and American songstress Selena Gomez collaborated on a remix of Rema's hit song "Calm Down". The video for the song was released later in September and has already acquired over two hundred and eighteen million views.

The song was originally released in February of the same year as a single from Rema's debut studio album, Rave and Roses. The sixteen-track album featured songs like Soundgasm, Hold Me, and Mara, amongst many others.

The Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, which ranks songs based on their streaming and sales activity across 200 different global territories, has ranked 'Calm Down' as the No. 1 song on the charts right now.
