Okechukwu had always been an ambitious person, and he had always dreamed of starting his own business. He had a full-time job as an accountant, but on the side, he had been working on developing a line of organic skincare products.

As his side hustle began to take off, Okechukwu found himself struggling to balance the demands of his day job with the demands of his growing business. He was constantly tired and stressed, and he found it hard to focus on either his work or his personal life.

One day, as he was driving home from work, Okeyboi (as he is known to his friends) had a moment of clarity. He realized that he couldn't keep up this pace indefinitely and that something had to change.

As an entrepreneur, finding a balance between work and the rest of your life can be a struggle. When you have a full-time job on top of running your own business, it can be even more challenging to find the time and energy to pursue your entrepreneurial goals.

However, it is possible to achieve a healthy work-life balance as an entrepreneur with a full-time job.

In this article, we'll explore some successful strategies you can apply to your career and your side business without breaking down.

What is "work-life balance"?

Work-life balance refers to the ability to effectively manage the demands of one's professional and personal lives.

In this article, we will be focusing on finding the right balance between your professional and business lives. This balance is important as it leads to increased productivity and satisfaction at work, at home, and in business.

The challenges of achieving work-life balance as an entrepreneur with a full-time job

There are several challenges that entrepreneurs with full-time jobs may face when trying to achieve work-life balance.
Some of these challenges include:

Time management:
Don't you sometimes wish there were more hours in a day? Unfortunately, it's stuck at 24 hours. And we must spend a sizable chunk of it sleeping. As an entrepreneur, finding time to work on your business while also maintaining a full-time job can be hard.

Energy management:
Running a business and maintaining a full-time job can be physically and mentally draining. It is important to find ways to manage your energy levels and avoid burnout.

Setting boundaries:
It can be challenging to set boundaries between your work and business lives, especially when you are passionate about your business.

Delegating tasks:
"If you want something done right, do it yourself." Many entrepreneurs say and do this. However, it's not sustainable and can lead to burnout.

Managing stress:
Managing a full-time job and a business sometimes means working day and night. This can lead to stress. It is important to find ways to manage stress.

Tips for achieving work-life balance as an entrepreneur with a full-time job

A. Set boundaries and prioritize your time.
Your day job should not interfere with your business. Set clear boundaries between the two. Also, set clear limits on the amount of time and energy you are willing to invest in different areas of your life.

Finally, focus on the most important tasks and make the most of the time you have available. This can help you to be more productive, reduce stress, and improve the overall quality of your work.

B. Use technology to your advantage
Technology can be a powerful tool to help you achieve your professional (or business) goals. It can help you increase productivity and save time.

Some examples of ways to use technology to your advantage include productivity apps to stay organized. Tools like Asana, Trello, and Basecamp can help you stay organized and manage deadlines for multiple projects (both business and professional). Apps like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive allow you to securely store and share documents and files.

With these apps, you can easily collaborate with colleagues (or clients) and access important information on the go.

Social media apps to connect with others and build your personal brand. Apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Quora, Reddit, Discord, Pinterest, Youtube allow you to connect with potential customers as you wish.

E-learning Platforms like Udemy, Accadium, Coursera, Udacity, Linkedin learning, SkillShare allow you to learn new skills and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in your industry. You can virtually learn a new skill during one month of your morning commute.

Communication and video conferencing platforms like Zoom, Skype, and Slack can help you stay in touch with colleagues (or clients) and conduct meetings remotely.

Automation software tools like IFTTT and Zapier can help you automate repetitive tasks like data entry and email management. You can set up business tasks to run while you are at your day job.

C. Communicate with your employer and colleagues
Nobody likes being interrupted when eating lunch. Or worse while in the “small room." How about those annoying weekend calls from “oga” while you are working on your business?

Well, this can happen if workplace communication is poor. It is important to be clear and direct in your communication while also being respectful and professional.

Effective communication means all of the following:
being timely in responding to requests
providing updates on your work,
actively listening and considering the perspectives of others.
communicating any issues or concerns that may arise in a timely and constructive manner.

Regular check-ins with your employer and team members ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals. 10 p.m. weekend calls will also stop.

D. Make time for self-care and relaxation.
Self-care and relaxation are essential for maintaining a healthy mind and body.

It is important to make time for activities that help you relax, such as reading a book, meditating, listening to music, watching the news, or going for a walk. Taking a break from work or business activities can also help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Healthy habits also contribute to better self-care. Habits like eating on time and getting enough sleep (6–8 hours)

So you don't think it's possible to achieve work-life balance?

Well here are case studies of entrepreneurs who have successfully balanced their full-time job and business

Example 1: Successful blogger and public relations officer
Nnaemeka is a public relations officer and blogger. He has been working in a college PRO's office for 5 years and has always had a passion for writing.

He decided to start his own blog as a side hustle to share his insights on the industry and the latest PR trends.

His blog quickly gained popularity among other PR professionals, and he was soon able to monetize it through sponsored posts and affiliate marketing.

His blog also helped him establish himself as an authority in the industry. This led to more speaking engagements and job offers.

Eventually, he even left his full-time job to focus on his blog and freelance PR consulting.

Nnaemeka's blog has not only been a great source of income but has also helped him grow his personal brand and advance his career.

Example 2: Public service mechanic and a private bolt driver

Jibril is a public-service mechanic who also works as a private bolt driver on the side.

Jibril's day job involves maintaining and repairing government-owned vehicles. But in his free time, he uses his personal car to pick up and drop off Bolt passengers.

By working as a bolt driver, Jibril is able to earn extra income and also gain valuable experience interacting with a diverse group of people.

This experience helped him improve his communication skills and customer service abilities in his primary job as a mechanic.

Jibril's dual profession also allows him to gain the flexibility of working at his own pace and the ability to earn more than one income stream.

Example 3: Crypto trader and full-time software developer
Tosin is a government IT employee who also trades cryptocurrency on the side.

She has been trading for over a year and has seen consistent gains in her portfolio.

She sets aside a portion of her salary each month to invest in various cryptocurrencies. She also makes sure to diversify her portfolio to minimize risk. She is able to successfully balance her day job with her side hustle

She also uses stop-loss orders to limit potential losses. She also follows cryptocurrency news and market trends closely to make informed trades.

Overall, Tosin's experience as a part-time crypto trader has been positive and has helped her to build wealth in addition to her government salary.

In summary, entrepreneurs who also have full-time jobs face the challenge of balancing their time and energy between their job and their business venture.

This can be difficult because starting a business requires a significant investment of time and resources. And it can be hard to find the time and energy to devote to both a job and a business.

Also, entrepreneurs may feel a lot of pressure to succeed with their business, which can lead to burnout if not managed properly.
So work-life balance is important because it can help entrepreneurs avoid burnout and stay motivated to work on their businesses.
Work-life balance can help entrepreneurs maintain good relationships with family, friends, colleagues, vendors, and clients.

Remember, achieving work-life balance is a process, and it may take some time to find the right balance for you.
Be patient with yourself and keep trying different strategies until you find what works best for you.

I used to have to work more than my working day, and often I took part of the work home with me. As a rule, these were documents that I had to prepare for clients. Now, in most cases, I use templates from site https://www.pandadoc.com/land-lease-agreement-template/. It's convenient that you can quickly edit them and send them to clients, rather than creating them from scratch.
