NFF to determine Enyeama’s future

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia says he has accepted goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama’s apology after Enyeama led players’ agitation about the team’s mode of travel to Madagascar for the African Nations Cup qualifier.

But despite his acceptance, Siasia stated that the goalkeeper’s future with the national team now rests with the Nigeria Football Federation. Siasia stressed at the time that his act of indiscipline was totally unacceptable, while Enyeama insisted that his concerns were ‘completely misunderstood’.

“I have accepted the apology. I have nothing against him as an individual.” Siasia told the BBC.

“It was very unfortunate that the incident happened before our departure to Madagascar.

“Sincerely, I dropped the player because I was afraid of his state of mind before such an important match. It was a sensitive case yet the right thing to do to avert it spilling over and affecting the morale of the squad.

“But it is now left for the Federation to decide on his (Enyeama’s) future with the team.”

The NFF President Alhaji Aminu Maigari had hinted to THE PUNCH on Monday that the matter could be discussed at the emergency executive meeting held in Abuja on Monday. But a communiqué released from that meeting suggested that the matter was not discussed. The Technical Committee of the Federation is now expected to handle the matter.

Despite concerns raised over Eagles team’s spirit after the 3-1 defeat to Argentina in a friendly, Siasia said his focus is on the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Our main focus for now is not beating the Syli Nationale of Guinea, but to beat them silly,” said Siasia, who will release his list of call-ups for the crucial qualifier next week.

“We want a convincing win, so we need to beat them by as many as three clear goals. We have to prepare well and find a way to win convincingly to earn the sole group ticket.”

Enyeama has shown true leadership and humility.

Vincent Enyeama has always been a good ambassador, so this issue should be well and truly forgotten. If Enyeama is sanctioned, expect his level of commitment to drop because he will feel betrayed by both NFF and Samson Siasia.

Why over flog this issue out of proportion and leave other important things behind. This guy had apologize he has payed his dues for his nation so what Samson siasia can do is to tarnished is career. I believe siasia is only using him as an excuse for losing to Argentina.

useless nff feeling like gods. who are they to decide his future? why are these idiots treating these players like goats?
for God's sake, we are in democracy where freedom of speech is allowed.
why on earth is this criminal minded nff always pretending to be serious minded ppl?
we always want these players to sacrifice for our country yet nobody among our private jet owners could sacrifice his jet for that trip. none of our local tv stations was patrotic enough to air the match. nff did not have money enough to get a direct flight for these players yet we want patrotic players. it is a shame that in nigeria, only football players are expected to be patrotic.

This same Siasia i recall was begged to play several matches for Nigeria during his days. In fact i remember a particular scenario at the National Stadium in Lagos when a lot of people had to come out of the dressing room to beg him to play a friendly match. I wonder why he finds it difficult to forgive a player who had the courage to apologize for his indiscretion. Make Siasia relax before we sack am o!
angry

Why siasia dey behave like this? he is the coach, so how can the nff decide on Enyeama's fate? Siasia na true say you dey forgive but na only Eledumare dey perfect o.

Typical nigerians their even blaming nff. Carvalho is banned for a year because he left camp wen he knew he was going to be benched. These old players cannot keep disrespecting nigeria then apologize immediately and think shit over nah. Enyeama is a good goalie but he should be punished or fined. First osaze now enyeama, next mikel will call coach useless then 1week later he would say his sorryyy twwwwwe
