Spirit is the force that animates your body. Life force it is called.

Soul on the other hand, is a thing apart. That self you see in dreams running, playing, having sex, eating, swimming etc...

Soul is the spirit (heaven) man as different from the flesh (earth) man.

Spirit refers to God's Holy Spirit which He put in us. Genesis 6:3

The spirit of man is the innermost part of man, the life within him, the very life he lives, his life and destiny. It is the principle of life in man. It gives us a consciousness of God and of the realm of the spirit. Through our spirit we access the spiritual realm the same way you access the natural realm through your body. The senses of the body is eyes, nose, tongue, ears and skin, but that of the spirit is called knowing, whenever you say 'I know, I just know,' that's spirit sensitivity, no sensation is involved. For those who are born again, their conscience becomes active, this is the first step towards hearing God by believer, learning to listen to the conscience, because the conscience is purely spiritual and does not depend on reasoning or thoughts, once you reason or analyse about it it is no longer conscience or the 'I know.' The Holy Spirit uses a spirit that is lively, not apart from God, to draw the man to the things of God, it draws and drags the man, it pulls him to seek the things of God and shows him through the knowing to judge rightly what he shoud or should not do or say. Ask that the Holy Spirit should show you what is of the spirit and what is of the soul.

The soul is the man, the main center where man decides and chooses. It is the center of man's intellect and personaliy. In the soul, man reasons, in the spirit is spontaneous revelations without the mind pulling any strings. The soul gives man consciousness of himself. You simply reason to know if you are dressing properly for the appointment or not, you recognise the difference between mosquito bite and a pinch, you differentiate colours, and even recognise odours. In the soul, man feels his emotions and know what he is feeling, maybe happy, sad, remorse, satisfaction, fear, love, hate, and so on. Our self is in the soul, this is the part of us that makes us rescue ourselves, focus on ourselves, seek our own pleasure, be overly conscious of our physical life. The self in the soul is what we are told to yield to cross, if the self does not surrender, the Holy Spirit would not work the cross into us deeply.

SPIRIT (ACTIVE FORCE) that God infused inside the clay body to activate the heart {Genesis 2:7} so when this force stops activating the heart a man is said to be clinically dead but if it could be revived the heart start all over again and the whole body rejuvenated. It's when all effort to reactivate the heart failed that a person is biologically dead then only God who installed this force in the beginning can reinstall it! Ecclesiastes 12:7

SOUL (CHARACTER) the real person apart from the appearance. When a name is mentioned the first thing that comes to our mind is the CHARACTER except we haven't known or had anything about the name before. That is the SOUL!

Therefore when a person dies both the spirit and the soul dies along with the body as only God can reinstall the active force (SPIRIT) and bring back the body with the soul (CHARACTER) no matter the damage caused by death or how long the person has died even if the body has decayed and returned to dust God can bring him back exactly as he was before death! Job 14:13-15

This is why Jesus warned that others can only kill by destroying the body but only God can destroy the person and make sure that both the body and soul (CHARACTER) is forgotten for good never to be raised back to life! Matthew 10:28 compare Psalms 9:17

Jesus Christ explained in John 3 vs 5 - 8 that the only birth you knew from your mother's womb was a physical one meaning your mind, body and soul, you were made with when you were conceived. He went on to say that it is when you become born-again - born of spirit - that you then acquire a spirit of your own. What this means is that you can only get a spirit of your own aka become possessed by a spirit when you become born-again..

THE SOUL IS A SPIRIT OF GOD.
