I discovered that folks get easily jealous in the workplace.
lemme go this way....I currently work in a firm and when I got into that firm I tried to study the environment as per individual character, to some I went close enough to chat casually and to some I don't, I had a rare privilege of meeting the MD and to share some ideas with him on things that I think could be quite okay suggestively, and my boss is a listening person and apart from that the office I occupy gave me that privilege, I try to tone down sometimes my ideas and contributions in meetings not to appear over impressive or get this jealous vibes from these other people, but honestly these ladies some of them are behaving in a way I suspect there is seeting jealousy in them, so I want to ask what should I do,since they have been there before I came.

Many offices are like this in Nigeria. When a colleague of mine knew I was his senior in the profession, the guy didn't like it. He was my boss's ass licker and I don't like people like that, and for some reason, he didn't like it when I did good things and was approved by my then boss. He even went to the extent of asking people about the result I graduated with and the year behind my back.
My advice: be careful, bold, wise, and foolish, depending on the situation. Situational and emotional intelligence is important in such a workplace.

If we shouldn't blame a jealous (or insecure) person for being jealous (or insecure), who then do we blame? ...

Jealous people will ALWAYS be jealous regardless of whether or not you try not to make them jealous ...

And sometimes the things they get jealous for/about are things you can't do so much ...

If your boss likes you, they get jealous...
You're being yourself, they get jealous...
You're good at your work, they get jealous...

It's not something you can help ...

Abi do you want to stop your boss from liking you? Stop being yourself? Or you want to stop putting in your best at work and being good at what you do?

My advice is outshine them discretely...
Since you said your boss is someone who listens, you could always go to him with very brilliant and creative ideas whilst trying to blend in with them when in public ...

But either ways don't stop giving your best to your job regardless of the so called colleague that is jealous ....

My brother, na so I carry one big yansh olosho for TDB enter club one Friday. My boss and the HR also came to the same club.

After that day, thier jealousy level don increase. Me am now careful.

But the good thing is that my boss na Soji guy , he later ask me the number of the babe and I gave him whole heatedly.

Since then we dey run Tinz while the HR still dey vex for me

One thing I have learnt those that have better ideas are always resented.You may have good ideas, but swallow them,Nigeria bosses and workers are afraid of change.They rather do things the same way.
Those that contribute nothing are preferred because they are not seen as threats.
Sometimes keep your ideas even if you know, except when asked directly or told to do so anonymously.
In my former school, so many suggestions to the owners on how to develop and change things to move the school forward caused so many things even betweencolleagues. ,I left there, now they are even worse off.
In my current place,so many things wrong, because of poor management andproper knowledge of running a school by theowner. I shut my mouth tightly and continue looking at them. I do my work as supposed,but run your thing anyhow you like.

@ Truthsoldier, your post is interesting. What I have often observed is guys beefing guys and ladies beefing ladies. The jealousy is usually within the genders and not between them, as in, it is not between male and female colleagues, but between male and male colleagues, then female and female colleagues. It is always entertaining to watch, I try not to get sucked into it. The best workplace advice I ever received was - do your work well and be pleasant to work with, so I leave you with that.
