The Equine Horse Stifle modules are designed to educate all levels of equestrians and equine healthcare professionals. The Stifles Module has three different levels focusing on specific goals.
The stifle joint is an important joint in a horse's hind leg, located between the femur and the tibia. It is similar to the human knee joint and is responsible for flexion and extension of the hind leg. The stifle joint is critical for a horse's mobility, as it allows them to walk, trot, canter, and jump.
However, the stifle joint can also be a site of injury or pain in horses. One common issue with the stifle joint is upward fixation of the patella, also known as "locking stifles." This occurs when the patella, or kneecap, gets stuck in the upward position and the horse is unable to flex or extend their leg properly. This can cause discomfort, lameness, and difficulty performing certain movements.
