OWERRI – Palpable confusion and apprehension reigned in Saint Mulumba’s Catholic Parish, Owerri, following the kidnapping of three girls that attended the 7am mass in the church yesterday.

The abducted children are; six-month old Munachi Ikwuazu, her two-and-a- half year old elder sister, Ugonma Ikwuazu, as well as two-and-a- half year old Uchechi Ukwuoma.

Concerted efforts made by Vanguard to talk with the parents of the three children proved abortive as they were completely short of words on what to say about the incident.

While the father of Munachi and Ugonma, Mr. Remigius Ikwuazu only managed to say that they are from Umuhu, Enyiogugu, Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State,Uchechi’s father, Mr. Nnaemeka Ukwuoma said he is from Umuoma, Nekede, Owerri West local council area of the state.

Confirming the ugly development, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Justin Okoro, wondered why anybody would want to perpetrate such a dastardly act on innocent lads that came to worship their God.

“These abducted innocent lads were on their way home after the children’s mass when the ugly incident took place. I am completely devastated but the situation is obviously worse for the children’s parents”, Rev. Fr. Okoro said.

Answering a question, Okoro confirmed that he had reported the matter to his Local Ordinary, Archbishop Anthony J. V. Obinna, and the security agencies.

Narrating the story of how her sisters were abducted, 10-year old Chinaza Ikwuazu said “a lady confused us, took us in a Keke NAPEP to the Old Market, made a few calls and told the receiver to hurry to where we were, adding that she had some children with her”.

She pleaded with the people holding her sisters to please allow them to re-unite with the family, adding that “God will bless them if they do this for us”.

Security has always been non-existant but we never used to resort to this sort of crime.

The fact of the matter is people are motivated to do these evil acts.

And as sick as it sounds I would prefer these kidnappers go back into international '419' if they really most make money by any means.

Maybe GEJ should take a leaf out of IBB's book and turn a blind eye to certain crimes that actually boost the economy.

These random kidnappings of local people is the worst form of crime as far as I'm concerned.

So who's behind the kidnapping of these children in iboland ?
Re: 3 Young Girls Kidnapped In Church (Owerri) by htajz: 7:36pm On Sep 26, 2011
i think i prefer the days of yahoo yahoo at least the economy was booming , now it has reduced theres nothin left for the youths to do so they resort to kidnapping, armed robbery, rituals etc.

It is completely irresponsible to send a 10 year old and two and a half year old children home from church on Keke NAPEP as described in this story. Where were the parents? The parents should be fined heavily or made to spend a few days in jail for bad parenting, after the children are found. SMH

"Cannibalism can explain the problems of igbos.

The widespread practice of cannibalism in vast areas of Imo, Abia and Enugu (and to some extent Ebonyi) is an open secret in modern Nigerian history. As recent as in the contemporary period, cannibalistic activities were reported in those areas particularly in Abia and Imo states.
Historically, in every human settlement where cannibalism was practiced, the darker a human is, the more nutritious he/she was assumed to be. It is this belief that put darker members of the community or neighboring  community to greater danger of being killed and eaten than fairer ones. In fact, the fair ones are considered as taboo to eat as they are considered to be cursed by the gods.

As a result of depletion of the darker people in such communities, the offspring became increasingly lighter and higher proportion of albinism as well birth defects are  recorded. Such defects include severe mental problems, anti-social behaviour like kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and oil bunkering, sight defects and se.xu.al impotency"

"She (the ten-year old sister of two of the abducted kids) pleaded with the people holding her sisters to please allow them to re-unite with the family, adding that “God will bless them if they do this for us."

I had to try, unsuccessfully, to hold back tears when I read this highly moving entreaty from such a little innocent girl.

In her pure innocence, she must have thought that the invocation of the name of God could soften the evil and devilish hearts of the disgusting scumbags to release her little dear sisters!.

Committing just any crime is bad enough, but committing a particularly heinous crime such as kidnapping against very young children as in this case, makes the crime particularly despicable.

One can only hope that the trauma of the little kids would end soon, and the animals-in-human-skin who committed this bestial act are eventually caught and dully punished.

I normally do not support capital punishment, but if someone is found to be so inherently as evil and wicked as to have kidnapped children as young as these, I believe such a beast has effectively forfeited his/her rights to be allowed to continue to live among humans, hence IT should be put down, for the greater good of the society!

NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. HERE IS THE REASON:

As the options for making money get thinner and thinner, the desperation in our youths (majority of whom are unemployed or under-employed) would increase exponentially. Since the government cannot create jobs or boost the economy to ensure mass prosperity, I strongly believe it is idiotic to stifle other illicit but preferable means of making money (especially 419/yahoo yahoo and drug trafficking). You cannot put the cart before the horse. Frankly, I could care less if some gullible oyinbo is defrauded in a phoney scheme, or a cocaine addict in Wall Street gets his fix from a Nigeria-exported joint; as long as people aren't forced to become heartless enough to kidnap toddlers (possibly for 'money-making ritual' purposes) just to maintain a decent lifestyle. If things continue at this rate we would soon witness a complete shut-down of law and order. You need to mingle in the streets to see the bewildering extent of joblessness, frustration and desperation. We're sitting on a keg of gun-powder.
