Disquiet: FG reconstitutes Okopoly Governing Council again

The Federal Government has reconstituted the governing council of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State over disquiet in the institution.

The 11th council of the polytechnic was abruptly dissolved by the FG last month.

A reliable source in the Federal Ministry of Education said the appointment of the new council members would take immediate effect, and all appointees were expected to resume duty in earnest.

Recall that the Polytechnic had witnessed series of abrupt dissolutions of its councils by Federal Government due to the incessant disquiet arising from irregular activities of council members.

The Polytechnic's Governing Councils were abruptly dissolved in 2019, 2022 and on May 26, 2023.

The source disclosed that hopes were high that the new council would bring in their wealth of experience in peace-building and development of the polytechnic.

Other members expected to form the 12th governing council for the Polytechnic include Joe Alakiri, Afolabi Joel Olusayo, Alhaji Isa Bakari Yarima and Aminu Ramalan Zaria, a lawyer..

Meanwhile, in accordance with the amended Polytechnic Act 2019, the Polytechnic community, Alumni Association as well as the host community are expected to submit new list of their elected representatives to complete the required number of members for inauguration slated to hold any time soon.
