The CBN has clarified that all procedures to access forex remain the same and all documentation remains the same. Which means the naira has not been floated, the market may be more flexible but still under the control of the Federal Government.

Floating the naira means no documentation beyond identity verification should be needed to buy foreign currency in any amount for any legal purpose.

tatax:
If you are floating the naira, then lift restrictions on existing policy that banned these 43 items from accessing dollar at official rate otherwise this is just noise & creating more problems.. Importers of these items will have to go to Black market to source for dollars to buy these items & this act will further shoot dollar to over 900. Who bans rice, cement, eggs, furnitures, meat, tiles, clothes, roofing sheets etc when ur country have not acheieved self sufficiency. Only Buhari & Emiefele. This policy is the reason why things are so expensive and inflation is high. If Tinubu and his team are not thinking yet to lift this ban then they are not doing anything. Allow fair competition & lift this ban then watch economy start coming together otherwise this is just NOISE!

Most Nigerians don't understand free market economics. Socialism has become Nigerian culture.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

The CBN should not ban any import from access to fore. We must find the true value of the naira. We must find the real bottom of the pit we have dug for ourselves for 60 years. To cure this cancer the surgery must be absolute or it is a waste of time.

You are the type that actually wants Nigeria to work, you cannot sustain economy artificially. Allow naira to float let's see the true value of naira... But APC like hide and seek. In the end tinubu will arrive where buhari stopped. They will tell us, subsidy was removed half way, and official rate is now 660 naira... No changes just plunging the country further into hardship

My brother why ? All these things should forever be banned . Our eggs can sustain us . Furniture is booming in nigeria . Companies have come to produce tiles in nigeria and they are doing well . Rice was doing well before Buhari’s bandits and brothers started their wahala . Those things need to be banned. Cement is fine . Just that the government has to prevent Dangote’s monopolistic tendencies
How much have you been buying the rice that is doing well before bandits?

Irrespective of any policy of the government of Nigeria, if Tinubu does not minimize the looting of the treasury of our common wealth by the officials of the government of Nigeria and her agents then Nigerians have nothing to rejoice about.

Hmmmmmm. You Nigerians are easily taken in and it's terrible. What special thing has Tinubu done now that you people are already praising him to high heavens?
I deal in fx and I understand everything written there and I don't see anything special in it. The government was using that strategy at other times even before now. It has it's own problems too.

That's how you people started praising Buhari in his early days calling it body language.
You guys are too shallow and are easily confused and convinced. Easily deceived. Easily swayed . Easily taken in. Easily messed up.

It is obvious you are not smart. If you have 43 items under that list, then what makes the I E window special? The black market will still rule again. This unification is a ruse abeg.

It is obvious you are a novice. These items that are non- eligible means the FX would be sourced elsewhere and not the IE window, now the question is this if the FX rate has been unified and the Naira has been made to float, what is the need for the IE window. What this government failed to realise is that these non eligible items in so far they is not enough production capacity for them, their demand will put pressure on the dollar and since the local currency has been made to float, it is will hasten the slide of the Naira quickly than expected. This was the same logical blunder IBB made with SAP instead of focusing on building the drivers of local industry, power, rooting out corruption and ensuring a business friendly environment, he placed items on noneligible list and from there the Naira took a hit. And this man is doing it again.

But wahali Custom need reforms , this idea of having huge revenues coming from import is sickening and government though are putting good policies out there, the stability of those policies really matters, thank God Alhaji has taking away our shame with respect to Oil imports, but 24/7 electricity will also be a game changer for our country productive life.

Then what was the purpose of the unification? Because if these aboki guys are still there, then the pressure of FX demand from these non eligible items would hasten the slide of the Naira.

What exist is the importer and exporter exchange rate...it is stated. So, it means people that cannot buy or sell at this exchange rate can have private dealings called "willing buyer, willing seller" where exchange price can be agreed and transaction take place. There are rules governing over the counter exchange rate where buyers and sellers privately and contractually agree. Bureau dey change/Abokis are unregulated. So they can create hoardings, they can drive price by fictitious voluminous tradings, malfeasances etc.

So essentially nothing has changed the unification is still a ruse.

They will still be there, because we don't plan before we act ... I don't think those non eligible items are completely banned. The reason I keep emphasising on data, as a country do we know how many litters of Palm Oil we produce. The reason we are an exporter of cement today is because we can quantify our capacity.

I'm happy a number of Nigerians are getting interested in the way their country is run, cutting through the clutter of propaganda and asking real questions on these reforms. And from what we have discussed so far, we are not yet out of the woods.
