The contemporary issue on Nigerian youths toward engaging into hard drug abuses is disheartening and debilitating Over 11 per cent of youth’s population in Nigeria take hard drugs like tramadol, cocaine, Shisha mix among others which are fondly use now Ballon, Banku, ice to mention few. A report by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime in Nigeria, indicating that 14.4% of citizens aged between 15 and 64 abuse drugs, which he said is significantly higher than the global average of 5.6%.
In addition current projections suggest an 11 per cent rise in the number of people who use drugs globally by 2030 – and a marked increase of 40 per cent in Africa, due to its rapidly growing and young population In Nigeria, this would signify that the country will have to grapple with approximately 20 million drug users by 2030, further deepening the public health and public security challenge.
Futhermore We must equally know that the high rate of intake of hard drugs by our youth can be tie from failure in the country Nigeria which implies to high rate of poverty from the nuclear family to the society, frustration, peer-group pressure among the youths, high rate of unemployment etc are some of the main factors fuelling drugs and substance abuse among the youths.
Moreover We must commend the effort of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for their dogged efforts in fighting again the drug abuse menace in the country Nigeria , it's high time both (NDLEA) and the government to create more awareness, strick measures, or propose rigid bill in order to rescue the youths from a further slide into drug addiction by providing enabling environment for the Civil servant, public servant, student, unemployed, children, youth.
parents should also ensure that their children associate with good friends and also monitor all their day to day activities; and to Nigerian youths, avoid using hard drugs because you are putting your life in danger. Smoking of any kind brings about diseases like lungs cancer and hepatitis C among others.
In conclusion Youth are the future Of The New Nigeria;Parents, Teachers, Schools, Church leaders , Media Outfit and related agencies must ensure that our youths are free from all forms of drug abuse and trafficking in illicit
GOD BLESS NIGERIA!
GOD BLESS NIGERIAN YOUTH!!
