So here we go! The stable release of iOS 5 is coming on October 12, as per the announcement just made and so we begin with our usual Android pilgrimages.

Here we have a checklist to put latest Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 head-to-head with Apple’s latest iOS 5.

1. Notifications slider from the top bar ala Android. | Yes, ala Android. A very trademark Android style. No wonder why Android didn’t have this patented.

2. iMessage for messaging across all iOS devices – BBM much? | Okay, no version of Android has this feature integrated, though it has lots of apps such as WhatsApp, Trillion, LiveProfile etc. iOS 5 wins here.

3. Reminders (location-aware) that will bug you when you’re near a place that you need to do something here | Cool thing. Android lacks. Admitted.

4. Twitter integration. | Well, Android had this for no wonder what period of time. I remember I first tweeted a photo from my Photo gallery when I was on the early build of Android Froyo. Sorry iOS, late on this.

5. Newsstand. Distro much? | A new feature, nevertheless! So now iOS users will read news through an integrated news reader called Newsstand, from periodical sources such as The New York Times, GQ, Allure etc. Don’t know if that is something huge, but atleast it’s something new. Appreciated.

6. Lockscreen shortcut to Camera app | HTC Sense 3.0 already has this. Sorry, you’re late here, Apple.

7. Safari updates. The reading list bookmark feature and the browsing sync between iOS devices | Completely new. Big plus, Apple! The stock Android browser doesn’t have this.

8. PC free iOS updates – wirelessly, without a PC | New! Apple wins here. To some extent ’cause they ain’t the actual first, but only to implement it wholly.

9. iCloud. All your data on the cloud and across all your iOS devices, for free | Dropbox wasn’t enough? Well, alright. Android needs to catch up here. Downloading an app once and then whenever you switch a device, it carries to it along with its data (progress in the case of game app) and daily backup, all sounds great.

10. Find My Friends| Scary shit. Those who agree to share their location with their pals will now let them know where they are, on the map! Too late, Apple! Android has it with the name Google Latitude. Sorry.

11. Cards app integrated in iOS 5. User picks the pic, Apple prints it out for them. | Postagram was always there on Android to do that. Yes, Apple has Hallmark to deliver these cards. Good thing! But wait, you have to pay for it, as Apple says! $2.99 for a card in the US, $4.99 in the rest of the world.

12. Game Center will now be like a little social network with friend photos and achievement points | Social network… Ping… Shush!

13. iTunes Match
| Google Music. Enough said.

A very limited bunch of new features with a lot of copying from Android and one from BlackBerry too, the BBM-killer iMessage. Well that’s what a fanboy’s words would be, but to us, it’s equilibrium. Some good new features, some old ones. And yes, Android still has quite a few things that iOS 5 doesn’t, such as,

Going straight to four of your most used/important apps from the lock screen and not just the Camera app – HTC Sense feature
The highly customizable home screens
Widgets, man, widgets – the whole world for Android!
Quick one touch integration with Google Search
The easy tethering (WiFi hotspot)

Pressing of home button on homescreen to see an overview of all the homescreens -HTC Sense 3.0 feature
