Nigeria is a country with a rich history of Christianity, and women have played a significant role in the development of the Nigerian church. In recent years, there has been a growing number of female archbishops in Nigeria, and these women are breaking down barriers for women in ministry. The first female archbishop in Nigeria was Margaret Idahosa, who was ordained in 2009. Idahosa is the General Overseer of the Church of God Mission International (CGMI), and she is a well-respected leader in the Nigerian church. She is the wife of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa and stepped into the office of the Archbishop of the Church of God mission international, CGMi (with thousands of branches worldwide) after her husband’s demise. Another notable female archbishop in Nigeria is Archbishop Angel Mercy Grandeur. Grandeur is the current General Overseer of the Victory International Family Assembly (VIFA), and she was ordained as an archbishop in 2022.
