Mbappe and PSG an umbilical cord that needs to be cut

When PSG signed Kyllian Mbappe six years ago they were hoping to build a team that would compete at the highest level, which means winning both domestic and European titles.

PSG have spent a fortune in the last 12 years to win the biggest honors and while they may have matched that ambition in the domestic scene by dislodging French heavyweights like Olympic Lyon and Marseille.

On the European scene they have barely achieved anything reasonable so far. First with the coming of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva in 2011. The club had more big name signings come like Neymar and seven time balon dor winner Lionel Messi yet they have barely reached the final and just once in 2020 loosing to Bayern Munich by one goal.

In fact Leo's arrival in 2021 summer came with more expectations but it did not live up to the expectations wanted as his knock out goals in the Champions league were fewer than one and PSG exited the competition twice in the round of 16 making the fans to turn their anger and frustration on the world cup winner.

With Neymar regularly injured and the hopes of the club rested on Mbappe the young french man has become the symbol of the club with PSG doing all they can to keep him happy by offering him more money.

There has been the feeling that Mbappe's happiness rests on more money but that is a notion that doesn't really sit well with him.Mbappe sees PSG as a divisive team and just recently Marco Veratti's former agent lambasted the club calling it a prison with directors whose agenda is to blackmail.

Mbappe also wants to move to higher levels as he sees PSG as team that cannot meet his ambitions of winning multiple balon dor awards so he can be placed in the same bracket as his idols Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi had recently attacked the hierarchy of the club by calling it a club without a winning project telling his teammate Mbappe to either join Barcelona or Real Madrid.

With fellow countryman Karim Benzema now in Saudi Arabia for the twilight of his career. There is a growing feeling that Real Madrid would want Mbappe to fill the void.

PSG are unwilling to let Mbappe leave and even more fearful is letting him leave for free. Mbappe is PSG's hope of clinching the champions league. With new Manager Luis Enrique now at the Parc de Princes it is hard to see why Mbappe wants to try one more year at Paris before leaving on a free meaning he will have the chance to have an open check book if Real Madrid comes knocking.





Mbappe wants to win the Champions league and also win more awards on a personal level and also in a country where his performances will not be undermined and this looks like a match made in heaven. A young man hungry for success and a club with the perfect stage for success.
