Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

A lot of people want today’s satisfaction for themselves and are not thinking about the future generations – our adorable children – the leaders of tomorrow. No wonder Jesus loves them so dearly, and never gets weary of them. Once, His disciples tried to prevent people from bringing their children to Him, but He rebuked them saying, “…Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14).

It’s important for us to give special attention to children – especially the destitute children in our cities, street corners, squatter camps, slums, ghettos etc. These ones live in squalor, abject poverty, neglect and despair. But we can bring them hope. Many of them are frustrated and bereft of a chance to live. Some die every day from starvation, with no one to help. Most have turned beggars on the streets. A child turned beggar from a tender age would surely become a violet adult. He would take out his anger and frustration on society. This is one of the reasons for increasing crimes in society; the reason we must do something now.

According to the Bible, children are a blessing, and a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). God expects them to be raised in the right way (Proverbs 22:6). It’s important that we give them special attention and consideration when making decisions, whether or not they are our biological children.

It’s your responsibility to put things in place or set things right to safeguard the future of our children. Remember, every child is your child.
