President Tinubu should stop deliberately allowing himself to be distracted by Niger's internal affairs as against his PRIMARY assignment of leading Nigeria to prosperity.
- Nigeria and Nigerians need his undivided attention 24 hours because the ship is sinking
- Nigerians need him to inaugurate his ministers immediately to commence work because even the Niger coupists have beaten him on this as they have cabinet already
- Nigerians need him to pay more attention to ACTIVE governance and less attention to political appointments and consolidating his control of APC
- Nigerians need him to URGENTLY unveil his policies, programmes, incentive packages and reforms toward reviving the economy and encouraging wide range of business activities
- Nigerians need him to pay attention to managing the rising inflations due to removal of subsides and floating exchange rate policy.
- Nigerians need him to be a lot swifter in approaching governance than the baba go slow he is currently is.

Where is the manifesto that was sold to us? What about constituting Presidential Economic Team? What has happened to erudite Femi Gbajabiamila many hoped would keep Tinubu focused on the things that matter? Are Tinubu's recently appointed Senior Special Assistants sleeping rather than brainstorming? What's going on?

Oga it is too early to start wailing, we sane Nigerians told you unintelligent lots that Tinubu has pass his prime and can not deliver but because you were all blinded by religion and tribal bigotry you looked the other way and insist he becomes President.

He hasn't even spent 100 days in office and Nigeria is already looking like Sudan.

Una go suffer tire, we sane Nigerians saw this coming and have planned ahead to avoid the avoidable pain.

Name and shame. Very strategic and very effective! That is exactly what I will do when my "face me I slap you" neighbour pours water on my door step.
But I'm afraid that is nowhere good let alone good enough when you claim to be a qualified and competent finance professional charged with accountability for the country's macro-economic well being.

When you allocate foreign currency, you have mechanisms in place to monitor effectively and check that the banks are actually bidding on behalf of the right persons and organisations. It is also your responsibility as the Central Bank to ensure that you use the services and products in the Cloud ( Azure or Amazon ) to detect any fraud in cases where the banks make rogue requests or where they make genuine requests and deceive the customer into thinking that the request/bid was not effected for whatever reason. You don't name and shame. That is gross stupidity on your part to have said that. You charge these thieves to court and ensure they are given long sentences. These processes are already in place. But then, a kleptocrat cannot fight his fellow kleptocrats, can he? Belzebub cannot cast out Belzebub, can he?

It is also time Nigerians begin to callout the audit firms who are statutorily vested with the exceedingly important role of detecting the criminality that's been going on in Nigerian banks for more than three decades. It is clear that audit firms, including the Big Four, are in "corruption and kleptocratic cahoots" with these banks.

Nigeria is worse than a cesspit of corruption. Blood will need to be shed in large quantities for any effective change to take place in that country. Near everyone is corrupt. The motive is there already as most people in that country worship at the altar of greed and your status in society at all levels ( how your street people and neighbours respect or disrespect you; how you are treated at social and cultural events; how you are treated when you go to a nightclub, etc) is decided by your level of criminality and hence level of wealth. Near everyone is in search of the opportunity to defraud, not just in professional and business life but also in personal and social relationships. It is easy to blame the Drug Lord for what is happening and what will yet happen. But everyone needs to start looking at themselves in the mirror.

What is yet to come will make the light hearted faint and die. After the Drug Lord, some other equally violent criminal will take over and it will get even more worse. You guys are already missing "Bubu the retard" less than three months after his exit. There is no other future ahead other than increased criminality and eventually, significant and unmitigated bloodshed.

A lot needs to be done to bring value of our Naira up and that lot lies in production than in consumption (importation).

FG should give importers only 3 months to conclude and clear all pending imports and then impose ban on so many finished goods other than raw materials and machinery for production purposes then give like 7 years’ tax holidays to whoever wants to set up factories from the day such is approved.

Government should also relax its visa policies on expatriates who would come and configure some machines or construct/fabricate some equipment for us.

Money meant for some useless ministries can be channeled into constructing power transmission lines, in addition to segmental licenses to be issued per minimum of 100km to whoever wants to go into power distribution.

We can speed up so many things with cash.

Tell China to manufacture prepaid meters and mandate NEPA to share and install in all homes within 6 months.

What is this claptrap about "Illegal remittances"? This is utter nonsense from an economic point of view, and solid evidence that this guy has no business staying in place a day longer than necessary. Remittances actually strengthen the Naira regardless of how they are conducted, as they represent demand for the currency. Nowadays, Nigeria actually gets more of its USD from remittances than it does from oil, and without them the . The only thing "illegal" about them is that Emefiele's greedy CBN tried to force Nigerians abroad to yield to an "official" exchange rate that effectively gave them half of what their money was really worth, and sadly this incompetent clown seems set on continuing this pig-headed policy meant to create a steady source of funds to siphon through arbitrage schemes like "round tripping". Any source of foreign exchange strengthens the domestic currency, no matter the route it flows through, just as any source of demand for tangible goods strengthens the bargaining position of those selling them.

As urgent as the Niger coup matter may be, Tinubu needs to act quickly to find a new permanent CBN governor who actually understands economics and is willing to sweep the CBN clean of all ignorant holdovers from the Emefiele era such this one. Until someone serious and confidence-inspiring is put in charge and given a free hand to clean shop, the Naira will continue to drop in value like a stone, as the status quo gives little confidence to markets that the root cause of Nigeria's ever-weakening currency - namely inflationary monetary policies - will be nipped in the bud. Enough of incompetents trying to shift blame to "AbokiFX" or "greedy [sic] bankers" for their own self-inflicted failures.

If Soludo and Okonji-Iweala praise his policies, it simply means they were necessities and he made the right call.

By the way, Atiku and Obi said they'd implement the same policies, so what's the problem?

You're the tribal bigot here. Many who voted for Tinubu did so because of his legacies in Lagos and the Southwest.

I know you're an Obi supporter. However, the fact that Soludo refused to endorse him and even did the opposite spoke volumes about what he thought that Obi as a president could actually achieve.

Look at what Soludo said about Tinubu's policies

Thanks for sharing the article. It's a shame Nigerian politicians (and elites in general) have never shown any enthusiasm for case studies of how to do development right, as the East Asian "Tigers" - and Hong Kong in particular - have long stood as counter-examples to the statist, protectionist, import-substitution based model that has proved a total failure wherever it has been tried (including China and India).

Hong Kong is particularly noteworthy of attention, as it puts attention to the lie that economic growth is particularly a matter of cultivating "strategic" heavy industries through subsidies, heavy import tariffs, outright bans and all the other distortionary policies Nigerians of all strata have all taken for granted as "obviously" necessary for progress. In addition, the example of Hong Kong illustrates something that should be obvious but which most Nigerians seem unwilling or outright incapable of understanding: the less the regulation, the lower the taxation, and the smaller the role of the state in general, the less room there is for corruption to flourish. One cannot have a state which puts huge discretionary powers in the hands of politicians and bureaucrats without these powerful leaders being tempted to abuse the powers they have been granted for selfish purposes, which is all "corruption" is.

For example, even if all the worst allegations about Tinubu's supposed corruption were true, merely by abolishing the petrol subsidy and getting rid of the old multiple-exchange rate regime, he will at a stroke have done more to reduce corruption in Nigeria than any leader has done since Buhari first came to power in 1983. A "crooked" Tinubu who then goes on to privatise and deregulate the numerous white elephants and parastatals will have managed to clean up public life in Nigeria to a degree no impotent "saint" with a "stolen mandate" could ever have managed, given the reality of an APC-controlled House and Senate.

If Tinubu's critics were serious about caring about "corruption", this is what they'd be pushing for, but as we can all see with their cheering on of the recent coup in Niger, all this "opposition" really amounts to is tribalistic animus rather than anything rooted in principle, a primitive "it's our turn to steal" mindset that would rather Nigeria descend back into the darkness of the Abacha years if they can't have their way. In such an atmosphere of primitive tribalism, a Nigeria that learns from Hong Kong seems about as far-fetched as Star Wars turning out to be a documentary, sadly ...

Are you talking about the Soludo that became Governor after Peter Obi or a political none-entity in Nigerian Politics?

Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi, who and what is Soludo in Nigerian politics?

Peter Obi is what Soludo dream of politically because Peter Obi was a Governor, a VP candidate(PDP) and a Presidential candidate that made Labor Party a major Political party in Nigeria and a third force the two major political parties in Nigeria are scarred of.

Let me also school you a little, Do you even know Okonji-Iweala and Peter Obi were in the same executive economic team during Obasanjo's regime that saw world bank forgive Nigeria for the first time in history her debts?

You kids on nairaland definitely need history lessons.

The greatest problem the country faces today is its economy.

Soludo, one of the greatest minds in economics endorsement isfar greater than Obj in that field unless you want a coup detat.

One thing many of you fail to understand that most who support Tinubu know his faults but also acknowledge what he can achieve. Is he corrupt? very. Is he a godfather? Definitely so.

Obi says a lot of the "right things" but filled with a lot of data inaccuracies. His trip to Egypt to understudy their electrical grid completely wrote him off in my eyes. Nigeria is not following their model and it isn't one worthy of being copied.

Tinubu would tell you he doesn't know anything but he will appoint the best technocrats and leave them to do their job, backed with his full support. I'm sure Soludo and NOI would have been pleased to serve under him.

He is a realistic and not a fantasist. I was laughing when people were angry at his choice of a Northern Muslim as his running mate. Had he gone ahead with a Northern Christian candidate, he'd be lamenting greater than Peter Obi who came third place.
