Rave of the moment and winner of MOBO’s ‘Best African Act’ award, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid as emerged winner of Next Rated award at this year’s Headies (Hip Hop Award) and with that he rode home in a brand new 2011 Hyundai SUV.

He succeeded Skuki who beat Mo’Cheddah, D’Prince, Jesse Jagz and General Pype last year and rode home in a brand new 2009 Kia Optima.

This year, Wizkid beats other acts like Ice Prince, Tiwa Savage and Olamide to the highly coveted award.

The award which has been the talk of the town for several weeks took place Saturday at the New Expo hall of Eko Hotels and Suites. Despite the Local Government elections which took place earlier in the day and the accompanied rain, security had hectic time controlling the mammoth crowd who graced what has become the most anticipated event in the calendar for the events of 2011.

Hosts of the event, music artist and producer, eLDee  and Nollywood diva, Rita Dominic blended like a perfect pair to thrill fans to a most rewarding night.

A total of 21 award plaques popularly called ‘Headies’ and designed by ACE Awards England made up of 21 carat gold were given out to deserving music industry professionals whose works have been screened by a team of selected critics and practitioners commissioned by the organizers

Apart from Wizkid, 2face remains the highest winner of the night with three awards. He won album of the year, best RnB/Pop Album of the year and the Artiste of the year. Darey also went home with best RnB single and best recor. . . . . . .
