Anybody anywhere in the world can have mental health sickness. Canada or not, mental health clients will have good care.

Moreso, this is not a mental health issue. The woman was just overwhelmed with how things work in Canada. Before I relocated to the US, I had all sorts of certifications you can think of in IT. I have a Master's in IT. I would be IT hot cake in US... So I thought. Omo, when I got here and presented my qualifications, hehn, all I was told was that I no get verifiable experience in America.. Ha, eyinbo, which one be verifiable experience again? That was the first reality that hit me. But now, I am all set. I worked my way up in the system. Na so life be in abroad. You need to accept the system and work your ways up in it and be successful..

The video paints the reality about getting a job in Canada. Getting certified seems to be the order of the day. Getting the right certification is key so you don’t waste time and money.

I will call it a temporary downtime instead of a mental health problem. Uprooting yourself from your society or social circle to a land across the ocean is already depressing. You experience a wide range of emotions at the same time; excitement, disappointment, anxiety, loneliness etc. In addition, the culture out here is based on the idea of "mind your business" and this makes it a bit hard to make new friends. Everyone is from somewhere and we're all being careful not to overstep our boundaries seeing that we all have different cultural backgrounds. And you have the legendary winter blue. A seasonal depression that comes as a result of always staying indoors during the cold days of winter. Luckily, we have the facilities to support people like this.

But guess what, it gets better. Yes, the first couple of years are hard but it gets better. You get your entry job, you make that one friend who was also looking for friends and you introduce the new people you meet to each other, you get a better job or a better position at work, you get your own place, you explore the city with your new friends, you make mistakes, you learn, you build memories and you get attached to the city. Before you know it, you can't imagine living elsewhere.

So I say, hang in there and give it your best shot. Talk with people back home and try as much as possible to step out of your comfort zone. Talk to people and be open minded. But if at the end you can't take it, please go back to the world you know. Your health comes first.

Things are happening o... I now ask, is this 'Japa' rush really worth it?

There is less likelihood of burnout in Nigeria as far as you're ready and willing to live within your means.. Atal atal, you will see affordable places to live in and live life well.

We need to start appreciating what we have instead of looking for every means to run far away to foreign lands.. You should think about acceptance, will the people and system there accept you?.
How fast and how well will you adapt to your new environment.
Lastly, Plan B.. what plans do you have if your initial plan fails?

I have watched the video from the beginning to end and I am yet to see the "mental health issues" you mentioned.

She is going through a phase, many go through when they relocate to a new place as they struggle to adapt to a system quite different from where they had their formation. Even within Nigeria, there are Nigerians who were born and raised outside Lagos and when they come to Lagos for better economic opportunities, they struggle to adapt to what Lagos represents......some pull through, some return back to their comfort zones as they couldn't cut through.

For those professionally trained in counselling, there is what is called Immigration Acculturation Therapy (IAT) and this helps migrants to ease better into the new system and those who are struggling mentally, occasioned by the move.

There is someone who wanted to come over to the UK for his Masters this September intake but I had to talk him and his family out of it because I have known him right from his childhood and I know about his mood disorders that him and his family has refused to go for a clinical diagnosis. I know about his severe moods dips during the cold raining seasons in Nigeria and moving to the UK with the cold weather and the coming winter, he would definitely slide into Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which will be triggered by winter, the depression it generates no dey get part 2 and some may become suicidal.

I encouraged him to go for a Msc program that has May intake, so he arrives UK when the weather is warm and by the time the weather begins to dip in late 2024, he would have mentally prepared himself, also get a light box in his house and sit near it for about an hour every morning as the light would "deceive" the brain to "believe" it is the warm weather in Nigeria and would help increase the production of the hormone called serotonin.

The woman in the video says she needs a job based on her work experience in Nigeria......she will eventually achieve her "okay".

Canada is geographically 10 times the size of Nigeria but Nigeria have about 5 times their population...so you can imagine the spread and less physical social interactions, then the weather no mentally favour many immigrants.

Watched the entire video. She doesn't have mental health issues ... just stressed and frustrated that she is unemployed and believes with her qualifications and experience she should not be. This was not what she expecting. So often people living abroad advise those wishing to japa about the realities of life ... of starting over again or having to get certifications from the new country. This is the same as having a Nigerian Driver Licence for 20 years ... no accidents ... no DUI .... clean license ... but yet when you emigrate ... you have to attend driving classes... do the driver test and the road test before to get a license. One can make the same argument like she is making... why is thus necessary when you have records to prove that you were competent in Nigeria? This is to ensure that everyone is on the same page .... the methods used in Nigeria may not be the ones used in Canada. She needs to swallow her pride and go back to school to get the certification that will allow her to enter the health field in Canada. Then there the issue of location ..... Saskatchewan ... that's a White State and with Germans and British and Ukranians? ... do I have to say how good her chances are as a Black woman? I guess the winter is on its way .... that place be mad cold ... and is a lonely place.... how will she manage? ... and if there is an emergency? ... with no finance?... one can easily freeze to death.... she must be stressed out.

People should look well before they leap.

nigerian women are really having a great time in canada. A lot of white men love nigerian women. those ones are too busy to create online posts to complain because their phones are busy with messages from fine foreign men.

She is new to canada and will adjust soon. the ladies that are complaining just landed and have not yet seen the light cheesy with time, you will no longer hear from them because enjoyment go make them forget anything about internet.

Anyone that tells you nigerian women abroad are lonely is either lying to you or does not know what is going on.

Like getting a certificate or diploma in a college or university course. If you can't do that then get a job in the health system like care specialist and be contented with your pay. A care specialist can earn $18-$25 hourly for 80hrs per paycheck. Overtime is a time and half, also holidays pay. You can be able to save about $700 biweekly. Keep saving up for two years, with that you can start building projects in naija. It's determination, focus and contentment..
