Job Title: Finance Manager
Organization: International Foundation Against Infectious Disease In Nigeria (IFAIN)
Location: Abuja, Nigeria.

Our client The International Foundation Against Infectious Disease in Nigeria (IFAIN) is a nongovernmental,
not-for-profit organization established in 2012. The mission of this organization is to improve understanding of
the epidemiology of infectious diseases in Nigeria through the generation of local data, promote training of
local personnel in all aspects of infectious diseases and provide the evidence for advocacy for prevention of
infectious disease-related illness and deaths. IFAIN works in close collaboration with international academic
and industry partners in the conduct of cutting-edge research in infectious disease prevention. We are
committed to excellence in every aspect of our work.
Our client is currently seeking to engage a highly motivated and experienced Finance Manager to join the
team and play a key role in its financial operations.

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) the Finance Manager (FM) will be responsible for
overseeing and managing all financial aspects of the organization. You will work closely with the senior
management team to develop and execute financial strategies, ensure compliance with regulations and drive
financial performance. You will provide professional accountancy services consistent with generally accepted
accounting principles. This is a critical role that offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the
organization’s success. You are expected to assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and
coordination of all project activities as outlined hereunder.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Keep books of accounts for IFAIN, including checking account, preparation, posting of ledger
transactions, journal entries, equipment and supply registers and all accounting records.
2. Supervise subordinates to ensure that duties are carried out according to schedules.
3. Work with the technical team in the development of new research grants and proposal budgets, to
ensure IFAIN operating costs are adequately provided for and covered.
4. Functions as lead support for fiscal year-end adjustments and other related financial benchmark dates.
Also, manages contractual modifications necessary for existing contracts/Agreements and develops
costing strategy to support in the preparation of cost proposals.
5. Provides support with problem resolution on CO cash accounts, petty cash, bank reconciliations/
resolutions, QuickBooks, resolution of audited questioned costs, and financial close outs of research
grants.

6. On a monthly basis, ensure staff time sheets are charged to the appropriate Research grants and fully
reconciled to QuickBooks.
7. Provide monthly updates on Research grant expenditure sharing the variance analysis- tracking all
over/under expenditure in comparison with approved research budget.
8. Provides support with the accounting workflow in the review and audit of all financial transactions and
donor reports for reimbursement of project expenditures.
9. Analyze, develop, and monitor accounting/fiscal control procedures and program budgets including
monitoring cash flows and requesting for funds based on achieved Research Project Milestones.
10. Prepares financial reports for COO to monitor and track financial obligations and expenditures. This will
include Tax and pension remittances are accounted for and paid for as and when due.
11. Provides training and backstopping on the QuickBooks double entry accounting system.
12. Assist IFAIN Research Program staff in monitoring research project budgets in accordance with
approved work plan activities.
13. Prepare written and verbal responses to inquiries and requests for budgetary information.
14. Prepares for reviews by the COO monthly and annual financial reports, including financial status of
research projects activities, with accompanying bank documentation and receipts.
15. Serve as a resource person to IFAIN on all donor financial regulations and IFAIN contractual Terms and
conditions.
16. Provide all financial information from QuickBooks for the COO as required for preparation of the IFAIN
Board of Trustee meetings.
17. Carry out such other duties and assignments, as may be requested by the IFAIN COO and the Country
Director

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Excellent working knowledge of QuickBooks. Preferably the online version.
2. Proven ability in the management of large, multifaceted Research programs.
3. Ability to work with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff,
subcontractors, and partners.
4. Proven ability in building capacity of organizations in financial management.
5. Ability to represent IFAIN to donors, government officials and the Medical Research NGO community in
financial matters.

6. Proven ability to supervise staff.
7. Well-developed computer skills.
8. Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
9. Ability to travel in Nigeria minimum of 25%
Qualifications and requirements:
1. University degree in accounting, Finance and Business Administration or its recognized equivalent.
2. CPA. ACA, ICAN or recognized equivalent.
3. Minimum of 12 years’ experience in accounting related to NGOs, Research grants and community level
programs, with increasing responsibility.
4. Familiarity with a variety of donor - funded programs and Nigerian non-governmental organizations
5. Experience must reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities as listed above.
