I am planning of going for an IT program or certification and I have heard of many certification programmes like java, oracle,vb,mcse,mcp etc. I will like to know which of them has the edge and is mostly demanded by the emerging IT firms in Nigeria like telecommunication companies.

Your question is very subjective and has no direct answer.

Demand changes with time, and it is very advisable to arm yourself with a wide array of certs across several domains.

The areas you choose to specialise in depend on what you enjoy doing.

Theres no point learning java or vb if u r not cut out for programming, even if they are chasing programmers with money.

Whichever cert exam you decide to write, you might want to know the rudiments of A+, N+, MCSA/E, CCNA as a minimum (and for a Networking track).

You can then add Java, VB, DBA, Linux, Security, Virtualisation, Project Mgt, ERP, etc to the mix.

You need to decide with track you prefer/enjoy first sha. Programming, networking, sys admin, windows, linux, database, graphics, mgt, etc.

For telecoms you might want to get any of CCNP, OCP, RHCE, Java.
